Questioning Reality: Are we for "Real"? - Page 4

We are real. On this speck of dust in the universe. How many other realities are there? Probably an infinite number. I choose not to devote too much thought into this question as I find it quite pointless.

Thinking about parallels, cosmology, quantum theory - this is all done because we question everything around us. Without the questioning aspect of ourselves we would be no more than robots, living droningly in the void .

the correct answer is mine. forget what the others says...

we are real, we , you, me exist as human beings.

however, we do not know everything outside the world we created. our society, language etc.

the are infinte things outside the world we created based on our senses. these outside things, we do not know.

we will never ever know base on how i see human progress.
we are real, but so what if we are real. it is not important. because we will never know everything except the world we created.

finally, the only thing we can do therefore is to make the best out of the world we created, while remebering that in actulaity we do not know anything at all.

to sum it up in a sentence. it is

"we must remind ourselves that we do not know the true picture of everything because of our limited capacity, the next best thing we can do is to therefore make the best out of the world we created for ourselves and try to comprehend things within this domain call our world"

If we are not real than what is? Although there are those glimpses of dreams in our "real" lives, when we think it's a dream when, in fact, it's "reality", it is inevitable to realize that you are real. You feel real, dont you? If you don't than maybe you yourself are not.[/i]

Actually I really wouldn't want to find out the answer to the question, "Are we real?" What if we weren't real, and some idiot in another dimension is playing with us like ants. Then my life wouldnt have a purpose to it. So I believe there are some questions you shouldnt know the answer to. If society found out that we really arent real, then the laws that govern our nature wouldnt really matter would they? I mean if you arent real, why would it matter if I killed you? Our whole society would crumble, people would lose their belief in God, or any other religion.

There are some questions, we shouldnt find the answers to.

Oh and by the way, leftwood, I have researched on the war on Iraq.

My research led me to some interesting conclusions. The war on iraq is not really a war on terror. It is a war on terror, but the U.S is putting terror in us by telling us that these thirld-world countrys have nuclear weapons. Actually this whole war is about power.

Bush wants to stay in power, so he attacks another country to do so. The illuminati, a secret society of elites bent on creating a new world order are actually behind this. They attacked the World Trade Center. Its a mind game of fear, people we need to alert america about this threat to our freedom. I only ask as leftwood did, for you to research into this.

Who knows it might change your mind, I can only hope.

Secret Beyond Matter
All events and objects that we encounter in real life-buildings, people, cities, cars, places-in fact, everything we see, hold, touch, smell, taste and hear-come into existence as visions and feelings in our brains.

We are taught to think that these images and feelings are caused by a solid world outside of our brains, where material things exist. However, in reality we never see real existing materials and we never touch real materials. In other words, every material entity which we believe exists in our lives, is, in fact, only a vision which is created in our brains.

This is not a philosophical speculation. It is an empirical fact that has been proven by modern science. Today, any scientist who is a specialist in medicine, biology, neurology or any other field related to brain research would say, when asked how and where we see the world, that we see the whole world in the vision center located in our brains.

This fact has been scientifically proven in the twentieth century, and although it may seem surprising, it necessarily implies answers to two questions; "If our lives are visions created in our brains, then who is it that creates these visions? And who is it that sees these visions in our brains without having eyes and enjoys them, gets excited and happy?"

Do u really even 'know' who or what u are? If someone asks u at this very moment 'who are you', what will u say, probably, my name is this, I study over here, I like doing this, dislike this, when I was 13, this happened to me etc... in short everyone defines themselves by their personalities. But are you just your personality? What would you be withought your personality?
Restricting yourself to just an isolated fragement of the universe is just an illusion, through meditation I have gotten to know that 'I' don't exist. But believe me, this relization s far from depressing, it is the most liberating experiance that I have experianced

Are we real? This has an obvious answer. What people don't realize is that we are real because we can ask (are we real). If someithing wasn't real it couldn't ask this question could it. What the real question is, if we are real, what are we? Are we brain waves in god's head, or are we microbes in a test tube? We are real, the question is what are we.

Conway, yes I was about to say something similar.
A computer game is 'real'. The cartoon soldier is not 'non existant'. So yes, we are definatly real, we 'exist', though it may be another thing that other 'worlds', dimensions, multivverse may exist apart from us, that we may be a small part of something else.

'We' in the sense all of physical existance may be definatly real, it is the feeling of a seperate 'I' that is illusionary. My body exists, but in reply to the question 'what are we', 'personality' does not prove satisfactory

I though I'd share and interesting perspective...

You, we, they, him, her...everyone is 'real'...if the universe was nothing, then we wouldn't be here experiencing this right now. So we know that something exists, and therefore something has to be real...

However, our senses cannot be trusted 100%. The senses are all simply electronic and chemical signals within your body and all creating/sending information to the brain. Now imagine for a second you lost some of your senses (think Helen Keller). If I'm not mistaken she was born blind and deaf for all practical purposes (if I'm wrong, assume she was). Now imagine being that infant. Having no prior experiences, memories, or understandings of how the world works. Then I place an apple in your hand. Suddenly your infant brain begins receiving signals from your hands about the shape and weight of the object. However, you were born blind and have never seen your body. So you don't realize these signals are coming from your hand, you don't even know you have a hand, let alone what the signals mean. Your brain has no knowledge of what is going on and has nothing to reference these signals with. Imagine the possible 'explanations' your brain would form about what an apple looks like.

A good way of reiterating that is to look at a computer. The incredibly fast computer works with strings of 1's and 0's. However, the human brain is neither equipped nor fast enough to process the same information. So Bill Gates came along and translated those 1's and 0's into pretty triangles and squares that form pictures (Windows XP) our brains can digest faster.

These 1's and 0's are similar to the electrical signals your brain receives from your hands. And [Insert Religious Deity Here] is very much like our Bill gates. He gave us the ability to translate those meaningless electrical signals from our eyes, ears, etc...into a picture in our brain (consiousness).

What this boils down to is that it doesn't matter if we are real or not, thats kind of a given. It only matters if we are interpreting what is around us correctly. Being real may not even be applicable. If god (or whoever) is as great as they say, it seams probable that the world is 'dumbed down' for us so we can cope.
