Things always seem to change over time, friends, perspectives, the sound of the heater on my car as I keep putting off fixing the blower, a host of things. One of these things that has changed has been my perspective of authority. Some Authority is positive, leadership, wisdom, guidance, all of these qualities are what we look for in someone to moderate our endeavors. There are times, however, our leaders overstep their boundaries and move from an asset of aid to an oppressor, a censorship instrument, prisoner to their own conflicts of control. We all see it, some of it subtler than other examples, but still present. I'm writing about a leader I work with. He started out calm, a good moderator, who worked with his coworkers in tandem and unity. Over time, however, it seems he's gotten more controlling, in a way that has a lot of his coworker's put off, but each isolated in the belief they're the only one. It's subversive, immoral, illogical, and simply wrong, but there's nothing we can do about it. He has the power to remove each of us from our desks without a second thought, and without him, the company does not function. He is an asset, and he knows it, therefore he has the authority to spontaneously explode at criticisms about his management styles, with no repercussions. This manager is in a perfect place, and we aren't. Things just seem to change. He gains my respect, he loses it. Authority is a poison, it changes people, their actions, their consequences. I just want to yell at him how disgusted I am with his conduct, his abuse of authority, his hushing up of the mess. There isn't much I can do, except post up here on this little corner of the world wide web and go on about things. Bloody hell this is great.
