That's creating a little uproar. I don't think I understand how taking someones house and building an office space in its place is going to help the local economy.

It doesn't, but then again, it seems that this is mostly aimed at the poor neighborhoods. In the bush government, money buys respect. The more money you have, the more respect. The poorest people will have their houses destroyed first, even though these are the people who are most likely to join the army, navy, etc...

The Bush government destroys their homes, gives them the smallest tax break, gives them the worst schools, and still expects them to support their war???

Suddenly Europe seems much more appealing.

Cities Given Ok to Seize Homes To Spur Economic Development
The Supreme Court has issued a major ruling on property rights. A split court ruled Thursday that cities may seize and demolish private homes - even in non-blighted areas -- to make way for shopping malls and other private development. Writing for the majority Justice John Paul Stevens wrote "Promoting economic development is a traditional and long accepted function of government."
But Justice Sandra Day O'Connor wrote a scathing dissent saying "Under the banner of economic development, all private property is now vulnerable to being taken and transferred to another private owner. Nothing is to prevent the state from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall or any farm with a factory." Joining O'Connor in opposing the ruling were Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. Land use experts are predicting the ruling is likely to encourage more cities to clear land for office complexes or big-box retailers.

these were nice houses with historacle value that had been past down through the family. They didn't want the money, this was a family herlume.

The deal was made by the city without checking to see if property owners were willing to sell (like a town meeting) well, the property owners we're willing to sell. Five houses provented the construction project.

A town meeting would have prevented this. I think this is wrong.

what fo you mean not fair? government tells industries & corporations where they can build & how much they will pay to acquire the revenue, what is not fair about that? They are the ones who decide what shall be or not.

quote:
The problem with written prophecy especially in relation to religion, is that people can and will try to make it happen, Israel was created under horrible circumstances and currently spits in the face of all reason and humanity, Israel is currently the anti-holy land. Is that what was prophesized.

Yes it is until they turn away from their ways & seek GOD's.
Speaking of Isreal, someone mentioned their lack of appearence in the forum? Hey what can I say?
I saw them when I was at South Beach, I mean you could hardly miss them. They tend to stand out in a crowd, right?

Unless the crowd is Isreal? So when I saw the news showing Isreal of Today, what did I see? Who are these people, this isn't Isreal's children? Then I understood, these are the converts to Judaism from the nations they had gone into converting the people to the belief of One God.

The Real Ayman al-Zawahiri

Aangirfan Blog | August 5 2005

From The Guardian:

Rory McCarthy in Islamabad and Luke Harding in Kabul
Monday February 18, 2002

Ayman al-Zawahiri, has been captured and jailed in Tehran, a leading Iranian newspaper reported yesterday.

Zawahiri, the founder of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, was arrested several days ago and has been imprisoned in the city's Evin jail, where political prisoners are usually held, the Hayat-e-Nou newspaper said.

The paper is regarded as reliable and is run by Hadi Khamenei, a leading legislator and the brother of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Who is Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, whose brother Zaiman is running terrorist camps under NATO protection in the U.S. zone in Kosovo?

As the London Guardian wrote recently:

"Even to say he is bin Laden's right-hand man may understate his importance."

He is considered by many to be the real head of what is known as the bin Laden group.

"Some analysts believe that in his current role in Afghanistan, al-Zawahiri has taken over control of much of bin Laden's terrorist finances, operations, plans, and resources," wrote the Guardian.

His known terrorist career started no later than 1981, with his involvement in the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat; it includes the massacre of 70 people on a tourist bus in 1997 Luxor, Egypt, and the assassination attempt against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 1995.

Strangely enough, according to January 2000 U.S. Congressional testimony, al-Zawahiri was granted U.S. residence by the Immigration and Naturalization Service - something almost impossible for many legitimate immigrants to obtain.

Should we be surprised that one of the centers of operation for al-Zawahiri was London, where one of his closest relatives resided? President Mubarak is believed to have referred to him when, after the Luxor massacre, he stated: "There are people who carried out crimes and who were sentenced [in Egypt] and live on British soil."

Sick From Aspartame? Meet Donald Rumsfeld.

Aspartame was passed despite FDA scientists' disapproval by a significant force in politics: Donald Rumsfeld.

When we started the documentary, "Sweet Misery", we did not know that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was the CEO of Searle at the time aspartame was approved. Not until our first interview with Dr. Jim Bowen.

According to a G.D. Searle's salesperson, Patty WoodAllott, Donald Rumsfeld stated "he would call in all his markers and that no matter what, he would see to it that aspartame be approved this year."

This interview with consumer attorney Jim Turner reveals how Donald Rumsfeld "called in his markers" as part of Reagan's transition team in 1981. Here is why G.D. Searle felt compelled to reapply for aspartame's approval one day after Reagan's inauguration.

This is despite rejection of aspartame over brain tumors.

Don't worry, the mercury and other contaminents in your flu shots and vaccines as well as the laughed at but equally scientifically proven (and disproven?) problems with flouride, additives in and geneticly modded foods, and everything else I don't know about will dumb you down, make you submissive, and eventually kill you.
