Do you deserve respect?
Why should I respect you or treat you kindly? Do you deserve it?

This question came to me when I felt offended by a younger person because she did not respect me for my age.

Do you think a person deserves respect for their age? a lot of eastern cultures have this whole "respect your elders" trait in them.

i tend to respect my elders more quickly than i do younger people. but as far as im concerned everyone is on the same page to start out. i dislike when people believe they deserve my respect when they have done nothing to show me that i should respect them. actually that behavior comes off as childish to me. everyone should have mutual respect for eachother unless it is proven to be unwise to do so for a specific person(s).

Would you rather I say to you 'I love you' or 'I respect you'?

well put wyote. i respect you, partly becuase you are older, but that wouldnt matter if you were a jack-ass, because i would know that even if you are older, you dont think. )not the case) and therefore would probably have less knowledge than me, someone who does think.

What about on the basis of being human? Are not humans worthy of respect from other humans? Regardless of how intelligent you percieve a person to be does he or she not deserve the respect due to a fellow human being?

and yes. i think i deserve respect. respect as someone intelligent, as someone opend minded, and as somes elder. and as someone who has respect for others, when i dont really have to have it.

age only denotes general experience. each individual is on their own level when it comes to all sorts of subjects. while an older person may have much more general experience, a younger person may have a sort of "spike" in their experience with a certain topic.

i suppose it would be more accurate to say that i have more overall respect for my elders than i do younger people. but i try to find specific reasons why to respect younger people. that is why i respect my elders more quickly. some elders have spikes in experience in addition to more general experience, but again it takes more time to find those spikes.

But is respect due based on amount of experience? Do you respect a prostitute more than a virgin?
