The truth only hurts because we are conditioned to react negatively, to irrational degrees, towards natural instincts and urges, conditioned through lies and superstition.

Its not that the truth hurts, its that the lies have made us weak against facing and dealing with truth.

I understand your notion of two sides of the same coin. But truth and fiction are the opposites here, not truth and intentional lies meant to harm.

Malicious intent is not the opposite of truth, and that is the fault in your argument.

And the point I make is that we have a governmental system which allows our government to lie to us, for National Security purposes, its one thing to withold information, its another to lie, and its one thing to withhold or lie about information to protect us, as opposed to hiding guilt.

And the problem comes because if the government should choose illegal actions, which they are consistently guilty of, then who protects us from them and how can we trust they will be investigated properly.

After the mulitple patriot acts and victory acts we can never guarantee this, in fact, if we go along with it, it will guarantee that we cannot.

My argument isn't based on speculative theory of the cosmos, I'm referring to lies that are provable, illegal, and not something we have to put up with.

People need to understand and learn the history of propaganda, intentional lies or exploited bias and fears.

This is an article referring to our inability to remember or even get the opportunity to know facts, unspun.

interesting thread.

i'm not america, but canadian. I know we as a people generally have a hatred for the bush administration, and leftwood's post about the 6 aspects of dictatorship opened my eyes wider than they already were about the whole american situation. My question is, how can the 'little guy' do anything to change the situation, when all of last year's anti-bush propoganda so miserably failed?
