Great Blue Hole |
A 'blue hole' also known as a 'submarine sink hole' were apparently formed during the ice ages, before sea levels rose. I'm not sure yet about exactly how they came to be, haven't read enough on it, but from what I gather sinkholes are basically vertical caves and the ones that are submerged now, were not under water when they initially formed.
The Great Blue Hole is a famous sinkhole in the ocean near Belize:
