cool people VS nerds
What exactly makes a nerd a nerd? Are you afraid of making cool people dislike you if you're a nerd?

Ah, the old, don't make fun of the nerd because they will be your boses.
Yup, power to the nerds.

If they don't care what you think why do you care what they think?

If it's purely psychological then I think the question being posted answers itself.

See, "cool" people are only cool because there are "uncool" people... and cool people are only above uncool people if the uncool people envy the cool people.

In essence, inquiring about the nature of cool people makes them cooler, because you care what they think and are interested in that, whereas they have absolutely no interest in you or what you think.

Seeking to undertstand them is quite similar to idolizing them in this respect, according to me. No matter how much you convince yourself of their bad habits, something is still intriguing about being in their position.

It is this superiority, according to me, that places them above you in their minds. They may not be fully aware of it, but they "sense" it, as do you.

What do you define as 'cool', generally the teen years is a time of great change. Some people develope social abilities, some athelatic ability, some were born into wealthy or prominites which sets them apart from others. Because of the need to be noticed these people attract others seeking to be noteworthy in the eyes of their peers. Those nerds generally lack these social characteristics so they tend to work hard to perform well academicly seeking notice by peers.

Yeah I find it funny, that without the uncool people, there really are no cool people.

if we all either accept the fact that we are losers or start believing we are all winners there will be no problem

Yeah, but its not like you just suddenly play into it.

You're coerced into it when you're younger. When you're in grade school its about who can kick the shit out of whom... who can take the other person's shit.

Physical superiority is not something you can just decide not to play into.

You play into it at a younger age, and then when you're older like high school although there might not be direct physical threat you are conditioned to perceive them as "stronger".

Its when you see the so called "cool" people working at wal-mart that you start to review this method of thinking.

I think it's always been about who has less to lose. The cool people generally have less to lose than the uncool people. They smoke, or they do drugs, or they steal, or they are disruptive in class.... all these cool things relate to a less successful life because they detract from your physical and metal health.

If you are highly concerned about improving your mind and health, you will be a nerd in school. That's just about it.

Thanks zero.

And on another note, why is it that we are awed by people who have less to lose? Why is there intrigue in irresponsibility? Is it viewed as rebellion and therefore makes the person somehow idolized because he or she "can take it", whereas the rest of us follow the rules because we are too meek to pave our own path?

we have this innate desire to go against the norm, when we see somebody actually doing it, it excites us.

Perhaps we do have a desire togo against the grain- well some people do- Many people have a terrible fear of being an outcast or to be seen as different so they try to be as 'normal' as they can.
Nerds do indeed rule- were i work now there is an army of nerds it is a great place to work I fit right in- although I am in desguise usually I am a nerd but I can blend in fairly well- most times. It is also important to realize there are no cool people only people who think they are cool. It is such an over used word anyway soon to be a cliche.

the way i look at it is, who cares if you are a nerd, a "cool" person, or even the so called norm. Just be yourself and think for yourself therefore you are in a group all by yourself

No one thinks for themselves. Those that do are visibly different in many aspects of life (intelligence, physique, skills). Remarkable people in this regard are few and far between.
