I try not to question whether or not the things i do in life are right or wrong according to some 'supreme being'. The truth is that there really is no right or wrong, these are simply abstract ideas inside your head with any number of connotations attached to them. There is what you do and what you don't do, and thats all there is.

You could waste your whole life debating which category to file your actions under..........why not just live?

But if you are sleeping don't you also dream? Oh! What if heaven and hell is a dream that you don't wake up from?
But what if this which you call life is the dream and what you call death is the wakening from that dream?
In the spiritualist conception this life is the proving ground to another life, the preferred being an ascention into a higher plain (plane) of life (existence).

What about social science? Exactly which portion of the extensive knowledge available to you would you like to share with my ignorant self?

Say that again when you're 58, we might then believe you.

Being older means you've made mistakes, and hopefully learn from them. We young'uns have basic assumptions that we may realise later are wrong, older folk may have had more time to realise this.

That is wisdom.

Nicely put, like war, there are somethings that can only be experienced to truely understand. Movies or books can give a feeling like it but the emotion which twist you inside is in the actual event.
One doesn't really know the fury of the storm or an earthquake, to become aware of the reaction of the physical body has to these stimuli that they produce.

what you two have said is true but i was implying that you dont have to be 50+ years
I don't think either one of the guys were implying that you have to be some age to make some connections but ratheer that as you grow older & you go through certain physical & mental changes.
For example, the thread about having children. Many young women seek to have a career over family but as mid life crisis, they find that they are facing the now or never juncture, they begin having second thoughts with a different perspective. So there are some aspects that change as you mature.

I would just like to point out that the only way for this to happen is that there be a supreme being (God) to judge when you do or don't go to hell.
Thought I made this statement previously, UnderDog. Chemistry of the brain produce endorfins which is related to our feelings. As Jesus stated we judge ourselves may mean that selflessness or self sacrifice may produce certain types of feeling (chemical structures) which act like the key to passing through the membrane in cells. On a spiritual level maybe rather than physical but similar in principle.

thought is the workin process to make things better for the next generation in my opinion. that is y we constantly ask these questions that way we can make things easier an less complicated for our children that way they can make the future what we couldnt.....as for y we exist....to amuse those that we cant see....(maybe a god i dont know) but i honestly think there is something higher up somewhere laughin at our efforts....(sry im a pessimist)

The only thing any of us have is our own reality, which is ofchourse subjective. We are so limited that we can't even answer the question of freewill. We ask, are we really making are own choices? Or is it merely the electrical and chemical reactions (or any of phenomenol explanition) that controls our thoughts feelings and actions. We seem to be confident that these factors have at least some influence on our decisions, but the question still remains if there is room left for ones own free will. Then that opens up a realm of speculation as to where this free will comes from, god, collective consiousness, inner self, ect. So it seems all we can do is live with the belief and maybe more apporpriatly the hope that we have free will, even though it maybe an illusion. But even as I write I still recognize the possibility that my life ( and everything that encompasses it, including my ideas) may be pre-destined, and others may disagree with me because they are pre-destined to do so. So where does that leave me? I feel that the only thing that matters is ones current state of conciousness, but I must be careful when I say only, because it includes everything that I am, memories, hopes, emotions, and always has ties to the outside world. At least I haven't been able to free myself from outside stimuli thus far. So making my reality as calm and aware as possible seems to be the only option
