Supercell thunderstorms, aka rotating thunderstorms, are pretty spectacular to see. If you're someone like me who get's taken away by clouds and the whimsical and beautiful scenes they create, then you'll appreciate the nature of supercell thunderstorm clouds.

A supercell is a thunderstorm that is characterized by the presence of a mesocyclone: a deep, persistently rotating updraft.
A mesocyclone is a vortex of air, approximately 2 mi (3.2 km) to 50 mi (80 km) in diameter (the mesoscale of meteorology), within a convective storm.
