How to remember not to talk too much?
I keep getting into arguments with my roommate. I think it would be better if we didn't argue, since I'd rather have a good relationship with her, and I don't want to have to find somewhere else to live.

I can stop myself from responding to the things I want to argue about for a couple of days at a time, but after awhile, I forget and fall back into my old habit of arguing again.

How can I remember not to talk when she starts talking about things I want to argue about? Is there a good method for changing the habit of talking and/or arguing?

A CTL of 3 indicates that Decius has been a member of Captain Cynic for some time and continuously engages in discussions throughout the site.
Truth is, if you don't want to talk to her and you start engaging in it, you are hoping she will see your point or side, and you are gambling on that hope every time you talk. When it fails, you feel shitty because you lost the gamble, then promise you won't gamble again.

So, in essence, it is a bad habit to gamble. Don't look for the possibility of winning - just don't bet. You can invest your time and energy in better places and on better people, and your investment will return 10 fold compared to doing it with her.

So the solution is, whenever you feel like it's possible she'll see your point and agree, when you feel good about that, energized about it, WALK AWAY.
