my problem with anarchists [+ favourites]

so yesterday i was at a poetry slam and a line in one kids poem said "true anarchists know that nothing causes more chaos and disorder than random acts of kindness". i was thinking about this and i realized that this is why i don't like most anarchists. Most of the anarchists that i know are just not nice people, plain and simple. this is part of the reason why i don't think anarchy would work (aside from any 'obvious' reasons)

Anarchy, itself, does not associate itself to any one particular type of person... although I'm sure it attracts certain people that are disgruntled with life at a young age. but they grow out of it and eventually totally lose interest in it once they learn how to conform properly.

Anarchy involves the dissolution of order - the dissolution of order leads to a complete absense of conformity in any way. This has its interesting aspects. It's important to realize that there are people who are able to conform and choose not to who are anarchists, and those that are anarchists because they are angry that they don't fit in.

Most young people would be angry because they don't fit in which is why they would come off as bad people.

Actually... anarchy is a type of government - that is - no government at all. Most anarchists (not the angry kids you're talking about who only have a vague clue of what it really is) today, although they are very few, are under the impression that government is an evil which is the cause of all bad human behavior. They believe human beings are inherently social creatures and would be happiest without the structure of government. I can't imagine any intelligent anarchist to believe anything different, I mean, who would want to live in complete chaos?

Theoretically, humans act in anti-social manners when they are forced to conform in manners unnatural to them, as a form of rebellion. This would support the ideology behind anarchy. It's still too unrealistic though. People cannot live in anarchy, because people are too corrupt. It would take several generations of "cleansed" social behaviour to let people rely on their own judgement of what's right or wrong.

Anarchy is an absolute dream, with no forseeable application in reality.

Whether it's right or wrong depends on your view of what humans are like in the state of nature.

what i'm saying though is that, of those people who aren't just angry kids, the ones that have done their research and settled into a more refined view of anarchism (anarcho-syndicalism or whatnot), they're still just generally assholes. how can you honestly expect to achieve something so big like that when you yourself are slamming other people and constantly dragging them down to push yourself up? it just seems so hypocritical to me.

I think what you're talking about is some level of righteousness. I don't know... it doesn't seem to be unique to anarchists. I'm sure if you meet hard core religious freaks they will be assholes in the same way. So maybe your problem is with fundamentalist homos.

i guess in the end my problem is with people who claim they're trying to make a difference in the world to make it better and whatnot, no matter how they intend to do that, but then those same people are hypocrits and assholes. i just don't understand why people are assholes i guess. i don't understand how you can just completely disreguard the feelings and thoughts of entire peoples. idk. this kind of thing has been bugging me for the past few days. i can't stop thinking about it because i see it everywhere. frankly, it bugs the shit out of me.

So like people who claim to want to "Better" the world, but then clearly make other people feel bad without any provocation?

They are hypocrites. The "making the world a better place" is the group they want to be associated to, so they stick with that and shun people outside of the group. It's just like any group mentality.

If you're a football player, you shun hockey players. If you're American, you shun the French. Etc.

The very fact that their group claims to promote goodwill, then succumbs to the same groupthink mentality that other groups do is definitely worse. Their claim to be a part of the group is philanthropy!
