The only way to be part of something [+ favourites]

Just a thought I had...

Is the only way to be a part of anything in this life, is to experience both ends of its purpose? (I'm aware that that might sound a little hazy, bear with me)

For instance, if you were part of a crew on a ship that is battling another ship, the reason you are 'part' of the battle on the ship you're on is because you experience first hand the direct offense and direct defense of the ship with the rest of your crew. The reason you are not part of the other ship's crew in battle is because you only experience indirect offense and indirect defense it inflicts.

Because the two opposites that make up a battle are offense and defense, the only way you can be a part of a crew in battle is if you experience both ends of the purpose with them. The reason you are not part of your opponent is because you don't experience offense when he does, when you move to offense, he moves to defense (and vice versa), they are equal but opposite.

So to figure out if you are a part of something, you must first divide the purpose into two equal but opposite parts and then you can see who you are with during the purpose. It's whoever you experience both ends with that you are part of for that purpose.

I don't get it... how does one apply this to normal life?

I think he means that in order to find meaning in anything... one must understand all perspectives, and find synthesis between them.

Maybe.

Hmm . . . yes but as stated

So by this statement, one is a part of the crew without being party of the other part.
