it could well be, art does always show us something of the painter or sculptor, in the case of damien hirst or tracey emin it shows that they need urgent mental help, but with most painters it gives you an insight into how they see the world. i wouldnt neccessarily say however that it was the best way of expressing it, as it usually requires some explanation.
