to rationalize the irrational.

rationalize the irrational, lol, true tho. Question the things we don't have answers to and find if others feel the same, it makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside. The funny thing is once we have something basically answered we begin to question something else. So i say its just something to use up time before we die.

this is actually a very good question, because many times it is argued that all that most philosophers ever do is argue about meaningless words, they never seem to reach a fixed conclusion. to many it does not change anything, it leaves things as they are.personally i believe everyone should study philosophy at least to some degree, because the unexamined life is not worth living, imagine carrying out a routine existance without ever stoping to think of the principles on which it is based.furthermore i think philosophy is an invaluable tool to bring understanding to the questions that dont have any answers or just leaves us wondering, so wonder on until you can wonder no more.

Philosophy consists very largely of one philosopher arguing that all others are jackasses. He usually proves it, and I should add that he also usually proves that he is one himself. Nah just kidding because thats not true.

The meaning of philosophy is the love of wisdom. We are curious. Philosophy begins in wonder. And, at the end, when philosophic thought has done its best, the wonder remains. One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; one who does not ask a question remains a fool forever. That is a motive.

There is no segregation between a philosopher or a psychologist or a mathematician. Those distinctions exist only in the political world, and when one wishes to be categoriized as one or the other for the sake of groupthink.

This means that the goals of a philosopher and a psychologist and a mathematiciain must eventuate to the same thing.

A psychologist seeks to explain logically the behaviour of the mind and its interractions with the world.

A mathematicisn tries to understand this world the mind interracts with.

A philosopher, in essence, tries to determine the nature of these discoveries... the "why" rather than the "what".

Hence, everyone is in essence a philosopher... and a philosopher must also grasp quite strongly a little bit of everything else. Without a strong understanding of psychology a philosopher cannot hope to understand the nature of humans and their interractions with the universe, nor can he try to govern his observations of all of it. Without a deep knowledge of the sciences a philosopher cannot accurately seperate the mind from the world.

But I do believe that the interest in philosophy is the reason most people begin to be inquisitive about their environment, be it in a psychological or mathematical sense.

Philosophy is a beginning of self discovery and human nature. We are all curious to unanswered questions in the same way a puzzle leaves missing pieces.

Yes but that is only a part of it. Philosophy extends into science just as readily as psychology (and the philosophy of science is far more explored than the philosophy of psychology).

In the end, however, when you are able to explain the largest and smallest phenomena in the universe, it seems to lead to the same things that psychology does.... that thought patterns alter matter, and that matter is in essence, nothing but materialized thought.

But that's running off topic... I couldn't resist cause it's so damn interesting.

philosophy is better incorporated with a variety of techniques and sciences because it gives reasons and logic to your conclusions.

... and has been far more explored than the philosophy of psychology. That's because sciences get a lot more resources for exploration than psychology does, because psychology doesn't eventuate in military weapons.

Not yet anyways.

knowledge is one. the classification of the illusion of knowledge into subjects, philosophy being one, is but human ignorance. an endeavor in ultimate futility. reality is singular knowledge. and that lone understanding is...well i dont know what it is, thats why i spend my time manipulating illusions.
