Brainwashed Youth

This is a conversation held between me (BewteenTheEchoes) and an old friend of mine (Methodz). It just seemed like a nice example of how society today is brainwashing our youth. Please give your thoughts.

xX MeThodZ: i cant really explain it
xX MeThodZ: but besides her might joining with me

BewteenTheEchoes: my advice is to stay out of the military at least until bush it out of office

xX MeThodZ: i didnt think of any of this shit though until i joined JROTC tho. i think that has something to do with it

BewteenTheEchoes: look man, you wanna "do something exciting" by all means, its out there. but dont join the damn military just cuz of a girl
BewteenTheEchoes: cuz ill tell you one thing, if you wanna be in the military AND have a relationship with her, its not gonna happen

BewteenTheEchoes: but if you join the military you two ARENT gonna stay together

xX MeThodZ: just takin life and its shit together
BewteenTheEchoes: ok well, maybe it doesnt have to do with her
xX MeThodZ: ive learned not to get too attached
BewteenTheEchoes: but dude, right now is not the time to enlist
xX MeThodZ: who knows. i get what your saying, and i could just take 2 years of college pre-hand. but its not sorted out yet for me
xX MeThodZ: i dont really want to be an officer
BewteenTheEchoes: man, believe me, you dont know what you wanna do yet
xX MeThodZ: the non-commissioned get paid more yea, and do less field work but its boring to me
xX MeThodZ: well im still doing basic this summer
xX MeThodZ: maybe ill solidify my thoughts during or after that
BewteenTheEchoes: if you honestly wanna kill people for the rest of your life, you need to get that shit sorted out man

BewteenTheEchoes: journalism, political science, maybe music

i let my ship date come and pass like cancer man... that hurts to read that convo... i was your friend with every person who cared about me. at the time i was so caught up in actually being something that meant something that i couldnt be shaken but after awhile in whihc my recruiter stopped calling me i realized that priority wasnt me... it was my signature then off to the next one.
i respect and am greatful for eevry brave crazy dillusional man and woman who eneters our military right now and if it werent for them we prolyl all would be there.
its a weird thing to talk about becasue i wa so gung ho on the marines... but one day i just said fuck it and stopped goin to the meetings and my date for boot passed.
i was sold on being a part of something but im glad i let other people be a part because i have since found anohter way to make differences.

The military is an outlet for some people. I would not call that brainwashing exatcly, and i am not saying that youth is not brainwashed, i just wouldn't say that way. Some people need the military.

it is a very respectable career, and incredibly brave duty, however they do in away brainwash kids to make them believe it is something that it is not.. i went through it firsthand... but i doubt all recruiters are dicks like mine

its a very cookie cutter like process. their main objective is to dehumanize people so they will be capable of pulling the trigger. it starts innocently enough in adds...

Hah hah, that's one of the most naive things I've heard in forever...war for peace...what bullshit.

It's not "brave" to be in the military. It's "brave" to stand up and say "I won't let you control me with your lies."

He said he wanted something "exciting." The military isn't that bullshit you see in the army of one commercials.

There is really no line between bravery and stupidity, only the prespective of the person judging, one might view it stupid and another brave.

As a side note, in my opinion anyone who served in the military is a hero. For whatever reason they signed up or were drafted, they defended the country and people within.

That earns my respect.

This surprises me, Alan, as it seems the opposite of what you've been telling me on AIM - to let people do what makes them happy. However, I do agree that someone shouldn't be tricked into thinking the military is something more than it is...

I admire the ego I feel in here, when I hear people talking about the 'lies' of the military.

To equate joining the army with being brainwashed is fascinating, because it does fit. But let me clarify, for my sakes, what you mean by fighting under lies?

To fight under the pretence of WMD, that is a close connection, although not altogether casual. What I concern myself with is the lack of devil advocates who recognise the pragmatism of having a standing army.

So I ask the question, loosly connecting with the coffee talk above - would anyone here join the army in any hypothetical scenario, however noble? I would.

Just not yet.
