pride [+ favourites]

okay i really cannot figure out if it is a good or bad thing. if someone says you have alot of pride.....is it an insult or compliment? i've been wondering about this for a while. just one of those things i guess..... but whats your opinion?

why do things need to be deemed good or bad? you cant just say a broad statement like tv is bad. just curiuos , how have you attempted to find out if its good or bad anyway?

pride.... hmm good and bad. every tool is a weapon if you hold it right.

pride is one facet of ignorance. As long as you are proud you will start to stop or regress; but not progress in real terms.

for the better..... things don't NEED to be deemed good or bad. alot of things don't NEED to be done, but that doesn't mean you can't give your opinion. i just don't understand pride and what it means that much i guess.

as far as interacting in society, i consider humility a stronger trait for a person to have than pride....

Semantics: Real pride/confidence is great. False pride is actually the result of the opposite.

its important to extrapolate here, i think, Decius is right but its important to know why due to its dualty of meaning and common misconception.

a person has values which they hold inwardly; true values are things like life, peace, love, confidence. outwardly the person has principles in the material; greed, vanity, wealth. Pride comes with succes. But let me say values are true-they will last forever. principles are shortlived for they lie n conceit-they lie in lies-the truth will pervail and through ego turmoil you will see this-there is only change.

so one form of pride comes actually with selflessness-a pride in yor values.the other comes from selfishness however emotionally glossed over and is false-it won't last long you cat live in a mirage long-your belived reality will beat you. aim for peace.

There is this large miss-conception in the world today that makes you feel insecure about being proud of yourself or something you do. This is a method of control, for the more insecure the masses are, the easier they are to control.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with believing oneself to be great, spectacular, above the rest. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a victim of their own insecurities.

They are proud in humility, proud in that they are not proud.

Robert Burton

Though pride is not a virtue, it is the parent of many virtues.

i would say be proud of truth.

Truly, the only dislike that one would have towards someone who feels love towards themselves is their own lack of love for their own selves.

If everyone loved themselves with all their hearts, they would encourage everyone else to feel the same way, not dissuade them.

you have replaced the word pride for love.

i know what you are getting at here: its essentially building each other up to higher levls of love until it plateaus. I'm at a crossroads here.

It is right that you should have love towards yourself. It threfore follows you love others. Now is pride really a way to, or product of, love, or more specifically confidence-or is it purely extrnal, like vanity?I will give this time and thought; it is a very important question and I shouldn't have been so hasty....

I believe love in one-self is the essence and base of pride. The way the word pride is used in a bad way in society most definitely encourages people to love themselves less.
