i need help defing free energy? in the concept of a spontaneous process. is this the prcess that the reaction uses to react? how come the change of G must be -, this means that the free energy is less then the total energy therefore the reaction is unalbe to do work? HELP

Defined: The free energy change is the measure of the spontaneity of a process & the useful energyavailable from it. Basically chemical reaction involve breaking & making bonds; which may have threshold energies to overcome to react =>spontaneity for a reaction. Not just the change in (energy) heat or entropy are driving factors of a chemical reaction. threshold energies (frequencies) => chlorine is highly reactive to sunlight which is an important factor in swimming pools concentration of chlorine in the water.
