Chicken or the Egg [+ favourites]

which came first? the chicken or the egg .
the question may sound silly....but can any help me out with an answer which gives both bilogical or philosophical base ....

the chicken, it evolved from something which did not lay eggs. when it finally became a "chicken" then it started to lay eggs.

That depends on your definition of 'egg'. There were eggs before there were chickens, but not chicken eggs obviously.

the egg.. actually does their have to be a first? why? wow its kinda hard to think that there wasnt a first logicly hass to be no? eplain otherwise.. and if something came out of notinhg even more crazy.. and dont say well mabe it came from another source cause that still doesnt answer if there is a first cause..

anarchist wanted to know. I don't believe that the egg and the chicken came at the same time. I believe the chicken came first. Scriptures tell us that the animals came first then the offspring. Scriptures may not be right, but its all we got, besides, it makes sense to me.

it will be great of you if u can explain me this problme under the light of theory of evolution by charles darwin(if possible)...

Sleepingwraith has got it. It really depends on your definition of chicken. And that definition is going to be arbitrary anyway.

actually, now that i think about it, the egg came first... dinosaurs laid eggs, yes? .... but the question is asking about a chicken's egg... in which case, i still say its the chicken.

All this talk about chickens and eggs is making me hungry!
Anyway, in terms of evoltuion, naturally the egg must have been made first, not neccesarily layed by something, but by joning of particles etc, or maybe chickens were a evolved from of something, so then the question becomes irrelevent.

well, i agree with the whole evolution thing, about the eggs, membranes, in cells, the hydrophobic tails of phsopholipids and the hydrophilic heads, that form bilayers of plasma membranes, often times spontaneously form...any amount of liquid would cause them to do that, and the egg shell, is similar to that of a plasma membrane protecting the organelles of a cell from the outside, like the shell protecting the chicken fetus...phsopholipids spontaneous form membranes, and, yeah...

Its no doubt the chicken came first.
Chickens (the animal) evolved from DNA mutations which produced the zygote (egg).
