Just look at this picture for a second and you'll see why it's insane...it's by M.C. Escher, a well-known artist from the Netherlands. He made lots of pictures like this known as "impossible objects" or "impossible structures"

Define impossible, b/c that picture is not impossible. It's a matter of forces.

Dude. I don't think we have to dispute this. It's recognized as impossible. Look at the path the water travels, it's up, yet down. Admit you are now insane.

If there were a fountain pushing water out where the waterfall meets the water that is flowing "up" the water would be flowing down on both paths. That is not impossible it's just how I perceive it. Which is the point of the pictures themselves, they are an abstract way into your psychology.

The fact that you believe the picture is "impossible" goes to show you believe there is nothing to argue. In other words, you did not think of a possible fountain at the top of the picture and therefore thought the picture was impossible because you made the conclusion that the "upward" flowing water was actually doing so.

rshulz - It's called an "impossible shape", and this is a known and fairly common term. It can be drawn but cannot exist in the real world. The water flowing up wasn't really the point, just a way to communicate how the shape was impossible.

Don't glance at the water, stare at the shape.

I always thought these drawings were amazing. It's insane how some people's minds work to come up with theses things.

I love Escher. My favourite one of his (the first one I ever saw) is of people walking on stairs going in all different directions. There's a dude that has an open mind.
