Though I haven't played FEAR, so have no idea what makes it live up to its namesake, it looks very atmospheric from what I have seen. That's what makes games scary to me. Atmosphere. Not gore. (What is left to imagination, not what you are shown is always more scary to me.) Decius, you placed vampire: the masquerade in your top ten. I too remember playing that and enjoying it. It was great. I played the sequel, Bloodlines but didn't enjoy it as much. However , I will say it did great job with its atmosphere; as probably the scariest time Ive ever had in a game was when I had to investigate a haunted house on a hill. It was dark as it was, but as I walked along, everywhere I went the lights would blow and things would shake and rattle till they came loose, then be thrown at my character. I'd keep hearing footsteps come running down the corridor into the room I was in, but when I was ready to fight whatever was coming at me... the door would creak open and no one was there. I find the scariest thing about playing a game is when there is nothing to actually fight. When you can hack or shoot something you feel powerful and in control. But when you're being ghosted and teased and you cannot act, you feel powerless and its very spooky. Ive been compiling my list of top ten games of all time. But I dont have ten yet. Out of interest, I wonder if people who have already posted here feel their list needs an update as they have played new games since, or they still love the ones they put down?
