I met my boyfriend on the internet..so what!

Okay for all those who think meeting someone online is ok...how would u deal with the whole parents thing? Like say for example, your dad thinks that this isnt good and that hes a fake and so on...well how do you convince them? How do you sit through it...while you know that all the things they say is all wrong....that the guy is a real sweetheart and kind and really down to earth?

invite your parents to meet the person as well. whenever meeting anyone from online for the first time, always go with somebody else or several people even, and always meet in a very public place. actaully it would be good to do that with the first several times you see the person. the fact is you cant truly know somebody until you meet them in person.

True! but the dude lives in Holland and I'm in Canada. So thats a problem right there.

I went to my friend's wedding last weekend, and she met the guy on-line, and now she's really happy...it was so beautiful. But the thing is, it doesn't always work out that way. It's just that you don't really know if the other person is telling the truth. With all the child predators and so on out there, it's a big risk to meet someone on-line in person. I mean, I don't trust the people I meet in person, what more someone who I met on the internet?

I met my husband online he is from Ontario Canada and I am from MO. I really don't care what people think. I love him and he loves me. I am in no way a freak, nor did I ever consider myself desperate. There is no reason to feel shame or embarissment.
so what if some small minded individual makes a nasty comment. just consider the source. to quote the great man

All I gotta say is, aslong as your safe about it, and take alll necessary precautions... i think meeting people online is a great way to network, or perhaps meet the love of your life!

or maybe you can't see that the internet is just a different means for communication. Maybe you haven't read the other posts about it, so you wouldn't understand, but when it comes down to it, the internet is just another form of communication.

Even still, I can honestly say that I am not ashamed of the way our relationship began, and the friends that I have now agree that not being able to see a lover every day, week, month, or year, does not take away from the relationship if there was something there in the first place.

I find it insulting that you make the assumption that online relationships are for those with self-esteem issues. I could just as easily assume that, being 41 years of age, as indicated under your avatar, that you are a no-life loser who posts on internet forums to fill the void his life off the internet fails to match.

Of course, this is just hypothetical, and not being an insensitive prick, I would never make that assumption.

weather you meet someone on line or in person they could be a complete loser or an awesome person...you never know, but like other people have said, if your meeting someone for the first time never go alone and always meet in public.....personally i think meeting someone in person is better, but, on line love has worked out for quite a few people so, go for it if you think it's a good idea, and anyway, no one can determin whats best for you besides yourself

i htink the internet only expands our search for "love" and allows us to step out of the small portion of the world that we see, to meet other people, and find a better match. Its much easier to use the interent and find someone who you can understand, and converse, and love tahn it is to search in your own town for someone. Although if you give up your search, and simply talk to people for the sake of getting to know them, you will find that eventually one of these people you have gottin to know, will be one taht you "love". So i haev no reason to discriminate or harass anyone by where they found there loved one.

and those who believe other wise are probably those that i notonly dont like to interact with, but also feel bad for. More than likely lived in one town there whole life with the only concept of the outside world comming from false or exahdgerated images seen on the internet or on tv. Travel, and dont travel as an outsider, and a toursit wearing clothes from your own land, and talking to only people from your own land, travel as one of the land your traveling too, learn how they have learned and come to be, and you will then realize how much more there is to life than your pathetic little shithole town you call home. Perhaps then you will ahve respect for how people live, think and find the ones they love.

having a relationship on the internet is different from any other way of doing it. there are dangers of the person not being who you think they are. for an example watch the film closer. as for the low esteem, that could occasionaly be thought, because it is easier to be you on the internet, because nobody knows you, you can say whatever you want on the internet, and as long as it is not rude there is no problem. sometimes if you express your opinions in real like the situation is much more embarassing. it is easier to start a convo with someone on the internet, as you just click on their name and say hi, rather than having to go up to someone and risk them ignoring you or telling you to f off in front a load of other people. also you dont get as nervous talking to people over the internet. i've had one gf that i started talking to over the internet, after my friend gave me her msn addy. it is much easier to chat and flirt, over the net.

though i think it is a no more or less favourable way of finding friendship or love than any other method.
