Haha, thanks for that enlightening post, if its just a stupid movie why are you so upset, hehe.

I enjoyed it, but agree that it is fairly overrated as a meaningful film, however artistically and mood wise I can see where it developed such a following.

I would describe it as fairly profound, as it holds much depth, but feel it was hindered by ambiguity.

But I specifically recommend for fans or general likings of Donnie Darko, well for everyone, to watch "Frailty", if you haven't seen it, its dark, messed up, and a little more clear in its profoundness.

I guess I could compare on an important point by saying that Donnie leaves you thinking, but more thinking what just happened and does it mean anything. Whereas with Frailty you are left thinking, but are specifically questioning issues that affect your everday life and the world around you in a light you may or may not have shown on the topics.

Here's a link to a trailer.

great flick, the super hero theme is awesome (one of many themes of course). lots of subtle things in the movie that add to the whole thing.

i agree with the statement about it being hindered by ambiguity.

I love the concept of how Donnie is the living receiver, that Frank and Gretchen are the manipulated dead and that everyone else are the manipulated living. What a cool film. I find the letter, the poem and the philosophy of time travel book the most interesting.

"A storm is coming,"
Frank says,
"A storm that will swallow the children."
And I will deliver them from the kingdom of pain.
I will deliver the children back to
their doorsteps.
(I'll) send the monsters back to the underground.
I'll send them back to a place where
no one else can see them.
Except for me.
Because I am Donnie Darko.

Dear Roberta Sparrow,
I have reached the end of your book
and there are so many questions that I
need to ask you.
Sometimes I am afraid of what you
might tell me. Sometimes I am afraid this
is not a work of fiction. I can only hope
that the answer will come to me in my
I hope that when the world comes to an end,
I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there
will be so much to look forward to.

Yes, it does indeed portray the Chaos Theory. The whole 'time travel' and the notion that every action, every behaviour is pre-determined. That is why I liked this movie so much. It has similarities to The Butterfly Effect film.
