I have yet to understand why the U.S. celebrate Columbus day, I mean, he landed in latin America. I really can't see why Columbus was so important, but if I get a day off for it, I can't whine.

Yeah I've heard he was not very nice (as in killed) to the Indians, but he was the first European to set foot on that land. I guess, in that way, he's important.
