IKEA UPPLEVA - Furniture with embedded HD TVs |
Market changes require companies to remain competitive, and on one end of the spectrum you have Microsoft who is always playing catchup trying to mimick what everyone else is doing and usually falling short. IKEA is tapping into a somewhat hidden niche now... not niche, but different aspect of business development. What they are doing is bundling a TV with certain furniture to provide consumers an easy, cheap cost effective solution. This is because the price of TVs and peripherals has plummetted, so instead of trying to re-invent a new type of chair, they are doing something you've never heard of - standardizing the TV you buy so you don't have to shop around or anything. Pretty cool change in the marketplace, in my opinion.

Duel purpose furniture, tools and appliances are by no means a new concept. The problem with combining two or more unlike things is one will fail before the other or others rendering the other or others useless.

Nope. Televisions and electronics in general have never been monopolized by any one company - it is always an arduous task to research the best one for the best price. This is like McDonalds selling cars. Yes, as per your statement the sale of cars is not a new thing. But the nature of the marketplace is a little more complicated than that.

Decius I was not speaking about a marketing ploy. I was trying to warn people not to buy two things if they only need one.

wow - I definitely see people going for it. Ikea is already so popular, people design their entire homes around it. 'Sure lets stick in that ikea uppleva while we're at it' @ Decapolis - I think people are always buying things they don't need. It's not about needing it as much as the social benefit it provides.
