One of my favorite movies of all time. Basically, this is a masterful blend of breaking the fourth wall, slapstick comedy, dark comedy, underdog story, and Kubrick-like attention to detail in regards to food. Classic movie, described by the director as a "noodle western". The hidden secret to the movie, to me, is this use of food throughout the film to subconsciously integrate the audience, as it subtly makes you hungry, and hunger taps into an integral part of your need to survive. So, like some movies use sex or violence to trigger instinctual reactions, this one calmly and smartly does it using food. (Which creates an interesting comparison, for if sex, an instinctual necessity, were not so vulgarized and tabooed, one could watch a movie all about sex in an almost similar fashion without feeling sinful or confused about wanting to try those things out, just as you want to eat the things this movie demonstrates)
