The Joutel Adventure
After buying a new vehicle, me and Dawn are going to drive up to Joutel, a ghost town in the middle of nowhere in northern Quebec, where I grew up. I spent only 4 years of my life there, but it was where my mind captured its personality and outlook on the world, somehow.
We're going to drive my old vehicle too - my 88 corolla, my first car, to this ghost town and hide it in the woods there. I'm going to leave it there forever and come back maybe 5 or 10 years later. I suppose this piece of land will be a repository of some deep memory of my innocence.
I still maintain my Quebecois accent for the most part. When I say things in French, it sounds authentic despite the fact that I haven't spoken it fluently in almost 22 years.

Hey there I grew up in Joutel too, and just discovered your post while searching for images of the ghost town... very creepy indeed- the schoolyard especially. what years were you there? I think we moved when I was 10. Thank you for posting your story.

I lived there from (I believe) 1984-1988. I was the only brown guy in the town.
Did you used to go to Jou-lac? I went there after making this post and it's an Indian Reservation now. We drove up to it anyways, all spooky as hell. There's a tree growing exactly where my bed used to be.
