I really Hate Microsoft: Wii [+ favourites]

We have Nintendo, that is dying, the company is staggering because it just can't compete with the mammoth PS2/3 and the XBOX 360 - so what do they do? They INVENT, and risk everything to make one of the most revolutionary game systems in home gaming history - the Wii.

Now, 2 years later after kicking the living shit out of the competition, Nintendo is not only flying high, they are making some incredible games (have you played Paper Mario or Galaxy?).

In comes Microsoft now, I'm sure after dissecting the Wii Remote and everything Nintendo risked everything on, and are trying to release a Body suit sensor that the faggot news companies are saying "blows the Wii out of the water".

Where is the loyalty people?

Do we live is such a shit infested world where you're going to jump the gun? Don't you feel just a little dirty knowing the everything Microsoft is is raped from other players? That the XBOX was in itself simply an improved version of the PS2? that they have no originality?

That once they wipe everyone out they will just squeeze you? That their entire "creative department" is 100% reliant on competition's success and that if there is no competition those people will all get fired?

I can honestly say that unless the wii really starts sucking, I cannot switch to the 360 or anything Microsoftish because I really would feel sick - I would feel sick knowing that I'm really becomming a whore, pursuing a gaming fix regardless of any base morality behind it.

I'm confident lots and lots of people will agree with me, but then 6 months from now will be raving about the new Microsoft body suit. What they don't understand is that if they support Nintendo, they'll get twice the cool factor in something in the not-so-distant future, because Nintendo is revolutionary.

And I'm not a big Nintendo fan - it's just a right and wrong issue. Nintendo did the tough road, and they won out, and Microsoft is a leechish whorish asshole company full of social rejects.

That's my not-so-well-put-anger-rant.

I rocked Nintendo and Sega for many years, all the way from the originals to the 64 and dreamcast. I switched to the 360 not because it out performs the Wii but because I can shoot shit at 2oclock in the the morning without getting up and talk massive amounts of shit online while doing it.

After working out for 2-3 hours a day I don't want to come home and work for my system.

But as far as a body suit, Microsoft should give up now. That will be as big as a failure as Wii music.

I know you said you're not a big Nintendo fan Decius but I grew up on an snes and classics like Zelda - A Link to the Past and super mario. I followed faithfully with them into Nintendo 64 and even into Gamecube (a very lukewarm system as far as Nintendo goes.)

I don't know why but once PS2 and Xbox hit the scene I kind of got bored with video games. I played mostly a select few computer games online but my interest in video games just continued to wane. I don't know if I'm the only one here who experienced this?

The last game I really had a lot of fun with on a console was Super Monkey Ball for Gamecube. It probably wouldn't have been as much fun if I didn't have anyone to play it with as it wasn't online. Come to think of it... with Nintendo, I think most of their games are boring unless someone is there with you. It's not really the same competing with anonymous people as when you're playing with someone who's right there.

I don't know how people can play endlessly like zombies such shit-piles as COD4 or Halo 3. Jesus christ, I never understood the fascination with first person shooters... there's only so much shit that can happen and then you're just comparing reaction times. These are the two most popular games right now... there's no hope.

I didn't know Wii put out a new paper mario, I played one on either 64 or GC and it was really fun - a lot like Mario RPG on snes if anyone remembers that great game. How does it compete with the older one?

zach: You're using an inferior system for the pleasures you seek - you need a laptop with a mouse. Playing online, be it RTS, FPS, or MMORPG, a console cannot touch the PC, as I have been raving like a lunatic since the first Xbox. Don't argue here - i'm right.

ChrisD: I would have agreed with you if I had not played super paper mario and mario galaxy on the Wii. Most 3rd party games are horrific on it, but the nintendo made games are quite impressive. Even games like big brain academy are great, and the wii remote being what it is makes it tremendously fun.

Really, I think the fact that nintendo has had a new breath of success makes them uber creative and on the ball with lots of their choices now and I'm scared that people are going to hump microsoft's attempts at overtaking them causing them to lose their success.

Project Natal is not only a blatant ripoff of the Wii ad campaign, it is nothing more than a re-made Playstation EyeToy.

Super lame. I played with that technology at the Star Trek convention in the early 90s. It was dull then, it's dull now. Of course, Microsoft will shell out tons of money convincing people a controller is inferior, when in fact the visceral/tactile element of it is what makes gaming interesting and unique.

Also I have an unusual perspective, since being in a wheelchair makes this sort of thing MORE limiting on me, which is the exact opposite of what they are aiming for.
