Sad to say you are quite wrong. Have you ever eaten an egg? was their a chicken in it? An unfertilized egg is no more a chicken than the gamete you flush out of your system each month is a human. If the question was, 'which came first, the chicken or the fertilized chicken egg.' then you'd be right. Except if the first chicken didn't come from an egg then the chicken could precede the fertilized chicken egg as fertilized chicken eggs are a subset of chickens but not all chickens are eggs. Also not only that but the question doesn't even specify the species of the egg. What if lizard eggs precede all chickens? then surly the egg precedes the chicken.

I think she was trying to explain how that if a chicken layed an egg it could then be seen as both came first since the chicken and the egg are really one in the same.

And it's already implied that the egg came from the chicken because it was said second. now if it said " what came first, the egg or the chicken?" then I Can understand what you're saying.
