vestigial Occurring or persisting as a rudimentary or degenerate structure

For example.. wisdom teeth. But the great use of this word is in an artistic sense.. to refer to lost innocence, for example: "My ability to love is a vestigial trait in this rabid world", as if losing one's ability to love is as natural and necessary as growing up, making it all the more powerful.
