Decius and his Wii [+ favourites]

I would like to share with all of you what might be considered the worst picture I have ever taken of myself. This is to commemorate a shitty night of sleepless tossing and turning leading up to a shitty morning of driving and waiting in line and then getting the Wii... which, as you can tell, I am too tired to play.

Congrats. I saw some people I know playing the new Zelda last night. It looked kinda cool, but it wasn't like a next gen system, its was just a new, different, system.

I mean, the integration "tech" stuff was pretty cool. Like, theres all kinds of channels on the main menu. Its just when I saw the guy fighting with Link and using the controler to swipe the sword it didnt seem too much fun.

You look amazingly un-interested in the new system. Almost like the look on your face says.....ya I got it.......now what?

Isn't it funny how we've all gotten to the point that we expect a new generation of gaming every 4 years? For me, personally, I don't feel that a next generation system has been released since N64. Now THAT was a new generation of gaming.

RM: That is exactly, exactly, exactly how I felt and feel. It was just the hype to get it.. now that I have it I just leave it on to listen to the soothing background menu music and do whatever I usually do.

ChrisD: I suppose younger people feel that a new generation should come out every 4 years or so. I don't. I've been out of the console business for about 8 years now I'd say. The last machine I gave a crap about was the N64... I was sort of hyped about the Cube but not overly. Online gaming with the PC took over, and still continues to be much, much better in my opinion. This is why the Wii is a good move... it does shit a PC won't do for a long time.

I think the problem with a lot of online gaming for consoles as opposed to PC's is the fact that a lot of online PC games provide a nice community. I hate playing against computers or playing games with story lines (except for FFVII). Most of the fun I get from a game is not really the game itself but the people I play with. Video games, to me, are just a catalyst for unity and team pride.

Wii will go the way of the asshole, while capable of shitting a golden egg or two, as well as providing pleasant sensations whilst in the act, it will take some convincing to commit to a good session, turn out to be generally a little a bit of a hassle and more work than you really wanted out of such an item, and though every one will have one, they will all kind of stink.

And like taking a good shit, any woman within 30 yards will tell you to stop playing with your Wii after 5-15 mins.

And that picture is outstanding!

nothing... I want it for the console firstly, then the Wii games. I'm going to put a review up soon because some aspects of it are really pissing me off.

Sorceress

I'm going to sound really old and un-cool but all this constant re-inventing of consoles can't give me back the amazing feeling I had as a kid playing "Wizard's lair" on the spectrum zx+ every Sunday with my mum and family. Incidentally, my mum who is in her 60s now is a complete game junkie, she loves console games and is much more PC and internet friendly than me. She has sega, nintendo, playstation etc. You can imagine how mine and my sister's kids love her. Even the 16 year old who has got to be hooked on internet gaming asks her for cheats and my 8 year old nephew and 10 year old daughter are always swapping memory cards with her!
But I refuse to buy my kids the latest consoles because the high you get doesn't come from the technology but the creative and imaginative genius behind the games themselves, just like novels used to be!

sorceress, i understand how you feel about the "new Consoles" but you should give em a try. If your son likes to play internet games, there's living proff that someone in your family likes newer games. The nintendo ds is an easy example of how you can get hooked on new generation games. Try advance wars, tetris, or clubhouse games. They're addicting!

Wyote

I wanted to make this picture almost immediately after seeing Decius, but I just now got around to doing it. I related to the picture so much at the time, recreating it brought back all of those feelings.
