I have read the article and, as far as all the rules that she was supposed to follow goes, she did not have the right to tell people that it was God that made it possible for her to be so succesful in high-school. The reason why she did not have the right to do so is because when I tell you that the devil is responsible for your shortcomings in life, I am "preaching" to you about the difficulties that people face in life, and how religion is atributable. Much like how the girl said that God was responsible for the good things in her life, and thats what thanking someone means, she was preaching to all sitting in the stands that the good things in her life are atributable to God.
quote: Where students or other private graduation speakers are selected on the basis of genuinely neutral, evenhanded criteria and retain primary control over the content of their expression, however, that expression is not attributable to the school and, therefore, may not be restricted because of its religious (or anti-religious) content," it states.
And because she was speaking on behalf of the school, she was putting the school in a religous place that is not allowed according to the seperation of church and state movement. So it was the schools responsibility, as a government establishment, to stop her from breaking that movement.
