Buying a personality-wrong? [+ favourites]

Goth, preppie, chic chick, ditz, athlete, indie, gangsta, playa, nerd. I find that some teens "buy their personalities" depending on what appeals to them in their circumstances. Sometimes, they're aware of what they're buying into (chic chick will accept wearing uncomfortable clothing), and sometimes they're not. Is there anything wrong with "buying your personality"?

Why do people ask questions they know the answer to?

Because they want to hear what other people have to say. Humans learn from each other.

Or because they want to put down other opinions to bloat their own egos.

there is nothing wrong with buying the music and clothing style of one group if that is what appeals to you. personally i dont fit into any of those groups completely, i like rock, dress kinda indie, and fall into nerd category through school subjects and computing.

i would say it is wrong to say because i like one thing from that group and all my friends seem to belong to it, i must fully be part of it, i only like the music, but i must also dress and act like it so that my friends accept me. that is just stupid. it gets even worse when you get the people who dont fit into the group at all but want to the wannabe greebos and wannabe goths etc, like my sisters friends, if a goth says they like a band, my sis' friends automatically claim that they have been that bands devoutest fan since the band started (despite not having been born at the time). everyone can see that is no way to go with living your own life.
