Pacifism [+ favourites]

Please do the following: (in regards to pacifism)

1. Define it as clearly as possible.
2. Explain its possible application and uses
3. Explain possible detractors from it
4. Give a personal opinion on whether you view yourself as a pacifist or not.
5. If you are a pacifist, why? If you aren't, what are you and why?

Although you may define it as you'd like, I would encourage you to look at it not only in relation to wars, but in regards to conflict in general, be it political or personal as the laws of pacifism extend from war to a yelling argument.

1. Pacifism has a few different meanings. Simply put, it is the refusal to participate in a dispute in order to resolve said dispute. Another meaning is that pacifism is a doctrine in which violence is unjustifiable.

2. Pacifism may be applied in social situations in order to squelch another individuals opinion/statements. It may be used as a demonstration of will, or ones own personal beliefs. From a political standpoint, a pacifist may express their disapproval by innaction-pacifism.

3. Doing nothing accomplishes nothing in itself. For pacifism to be successful the non-pacifyer must make a change. The non-pacifyer must come to a realization on their own. Change is more likely to occur through some form of agitation.

4. I am very much a pacifist in that I believe there is no justification for violence. However, I do believe people better themselves through conflict. Unfortunately in the real world conflict without violence is a rarity.

5. I am forced into pacifism in confrontational circumstances because I am a physically weak, feeble individual. I have avoided potentially hazardous situations via pacifism because I value my life more than my dignity.

1.Pacifism is the refusal to participate or take sides in a defined argument/situation/war etc (some Libertarians usually take such a position.)

2.Innaction according to ones belief system.

3.The ability of pacifism to promote anykind of change through a policy of non compliance and general apathy accomplishes very little.

4.I am not a pacifist as it accompishes nothing significant.

5.I Prefer not to disclose my specific Ideology.

 Pacifists are people who choose to avoid confrontation, choosing passive aggression instead.
 Its most useful application is to enable the ‘sniper’ to launch attacks from a safe distance, and therefore live to fight another day.
 It is not up-front-and-honest, and therefore it often leads to misunderstandings and confusion.
 I am not a pacifist, and therefore have a tendency to put my foot in it (which does not necessarily produce better results, and also frequently creates alienation).
 I am not a pacifist because I value the notion of honesty too highly. But this also means I am not much of a diplomat.

PS: I realize this thread is a year old,but liked it anyway, and hell... nobody else has ever asked me these questions!

1. pacifism is the belief that there are always better ways to solve a conflict than with violance.
2. the easiest application is in everyday life and social situations, ideally world governments should enact it as a policy, but that's a lot harder to achieve than on an individual basis.
3. well, the obvious downfall for the pacifist is that there is a damn good chance your gonna get your ass kicked.
4. i am a pacifist. ever since i saw someone beat to within an inch of their life physical violance makes me puke. literally. i was actually a pacifist before that, but never actually called myself one. to me, pacifism just means that you won't subject anyone to unwilling violance. if two people are willing to fight, fine, who the fuck cares what they do to themselves?
5. i've always been a pacifist, even before i knew what a pacifist was. i remember watching Tom and Jerry and feeling bad for Tom the cat. then, like i said above, i saw the result of a fight (actually it wasn't much of a fight) between a few kids and some of the 77's (a chicago gang, kindof). after that i puked whenever i saw realistic violance, which only added to my position. in the end i guess i just feel bad for people.
