I guess I should clarify: Some entertainment provides escape, and some plugs you into the world so you interact (The complete opposite of escape).

The latter is the only kind that is not damaging. The first type actually becomes an addiction, whatever it may be (smoking, television, video games, this fucking forum)

One of the unfortunate things is that life isn't like one of those huge epics where there's a particular wiseman with a long white beard who has the answer to EVERY question you could ask. We can't find that guy and ask him something, so we search and search for answers to what we think is a question, but isn't. As for the meaning of life, the most saught answer in human kind, I personally don't think there's a particular answer.
Now, you can say there's no point to life, you can take the religious route and say that everyone has their own meaning on this earth, you can take the Christ route and say that love and caring and experiencing the emotions and wonders of the earth is the meaning of life, but there's no real answer. But as for the question of this thread, I think we search for answers because if we tell ourself there IS an answer out there somewhere, we can maintain a bit of hope that we've got a point. I find discussing these topics to be one of the best mental excercises you can engage in, but philosophy isn't something you can gouge answers from. For some questions, finding the answers is like robibing a bank. You observe it from every angle, imagine everything that could go wrong, and carefully, patiently, and with determination, work your way in through a crevice and poke around until you find the jackpot.
