Worst executed critical lines in a movie [+ favourites]

(boldify the movie name so we know it's not a response but an original post)

Star Wars III: The moment of anticipation for fans everywhere. The moment Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader and joins the Dark Side of the Force, flinging a democratic Republic into an imperialistic fascist regime that rules with an iron fist for decades.

The most powerful Jedi to ever be born, Anakin is plagued with an immense sense of love and it is this strength in him that eventually fills him with fears and confusion. It permits him to be manipulated by visions and lies by the Sith Lord, Darth Sidious.

After much anguish over the visions of Padme's death Anakin is emotionally desperate: he needs a way to save her and will do anything to achieve it.

And so... after decapitating Master Windu and flinging him off a grandose building he realizes his actions and feels sucked into a well of depair and pain. He feels helpless and lost for he has now commited himself to a path that leads to the Dark Side.

Unfortunately, this wonderful, spectacular moment of internal despair and fear is given to Hayden Christensen, who like a whining teenager succumbs to the will of Darth Sidious... it would seem... because he's too tired. In an attempt to portray the difficult choice of selling one's soul to appease one's fears, Hayden is unfortunately limited by a complete innability to act and manifests this most devasting and un-spiritual of human moments with heavy breaths, as if he ran a marathon.

That moment is realized, along with the pain in the stomachs of thousands of fans as they hear the weak, stuttering and unresolved childish voice of Hayden Christensen utter:

"I will do whatever you (breath)... ask."

As fans looked longingly into the void eyes of Hayden they realized at that moment that the terrible transformation of the most powerful Jedi in existance into the tortured bio-mechanical arch-fiend Darth Vader would exist only in their imaginations.

And so even as I watch the film, I try to block out that moment and imagine a vision of the true Anakin... kneeling down in desperate agony... giving himself away for the life of his loved one.

I laughed my ass off in the movie theater when he did that... I really could not control my ludicrously loud burst of laughter. It just sounded soo bad at the time And of course I look over to my friends in Tears and they were doing exactly what I was doing. soo I didn't feel too weird about streaming tears of laughter...

But that line is not the turn over point. Anakin is disturbed by his actions even though it was not he but Darth Sidious who killed Windu. Anakin is falling and he thinks only Sidious can help him. So he says
"I will do whatever you ask. Just help me save Padme's life."
to which Sidous says "To cheat death is a power only one has achieved, but if we work together, I know we can discover the secret."
It is at this point when Anakin feels that his alliance with Sidious will bring him the power to save Padme's life that he kneels before Sidious and says "I pledge myself to your teachings. To the ways of the Sith"

He knew that before hand since that's why he lopped Windu's arm off. That line was the moment of defeat and surrender.

He knew only that the Chancellor promised to help him. That line is the last line prior to his fall when he reaffirms that Darth Sidious will help him. After this is learned he then makes his fall complete by pledging himself to the Dark Side

I loved the "NOOOOOOOO!!!!" It's a classic line and Star Wars, being a classic, should have used it, and at least it wasn't as bad as the crappy scene cuts. Those scene cuts were something any novice film editor could use. Why did Lucas do that? At one point, I expected to have the scene cut into the next one in the shape of a heart. To me, that was a million times worse than any amount of "NOOOOOOOO!!!"s. And, the other point, Hayden can't act, but damn is he sexy!

The whole point was that the scene cuts were old like the original trilogy.

You're an idiot. He agreed to do everything Sidious asks before Sidious re-states that the dark side can help him save Padme. Just because you don't understand the dynamics of human interraction (even in their most simple terms) that doesn't mean that your skewed view of the universe makes it so.

I gotta be more vigilant about ignoring the bile that your brain vomits, ethereal.

But his fall is not complete until he willingly submits to the dark side which he does after reaffirming Darth Sidious' ability to help him. If you want to argue about him knowing before then you should say that his real act of falling was leaving the Jedi temple in the first place because at that moment he knew he was going to spare Sidious

He did not know he was going to spare Sidious. He came there and clearly stated that Sidious should be tried legally. He had no allegiance to him. Then after he kills Windu the guilt kicks in and he realizes what he has done. That is the moment that he kneels and becomes helpless, willing to do anything Sidious asks.

After he agrees to (shittily) Sidious then re-states what he will gain. I seriously don't udnerstand where the confusion is. If you don't get that his kneeling along with the line means the moment of submission then you don't understand the art of dramatics.

Only because he thought he needed Sidious

I was the one who first stated that his kneeling line was the true line of submission. You claimed it was prior to that. But he doesn't kneel until the line "I pledge myself to your teachings."

Yeah, this line wasn't really all that dramatic, but it always sounds very strange to me. When The council is being held in Rivendell, and Aragorn says something along these lines: "It has no other master." His voice is all nasally and weirf.
