we only have what we will [+ favourites]

there are alot of things that are great in this world. but sadly they are overshadowed by the mass amounts of crime, war, poverty, politics, religion, and society.
we all have our views on how to betetr these things or how they got so bad but the bottom line is we only have what we will.
So the real question that we should be asking is how do we make people better? i mean we are the ones who have created all these problems.

How to make the world a better place:

Step 1: Make yourself better.

Maybe then you'll affect your family, your friends, who will in turn affect your neighborhood, who will then affect your town, who will then affect you city, who will then affect your state, who will then affect this country. Who knoes. But the first step starts with you.

its weird how a thread can go on forever that debates politics and religion.
i guess i should ask why are we so indulged in self-fulfillment?
what causes the stress that causes us to be insecure which causes us to build false bridges?
what is our obsession with envy?
Are these things natural or are they from constant exposure?

Crime will always be there. There is no peace to war. Someone will always be richer than another. Politicians get corrupted with power. Religion imposes questionable beliefs on people. Societies as a whole are stupid. So what can you do? Worry about yourself first and then teach others. Socrates, Jesus, Buddha all the great philosophers did this.

i agree it starts here but i want some views on why people are the way they are.

People are the way they are because they're people. No ones perfect. And I'd have to say that after making one mistake it's easy to follow up with another. For example you steal a hotdog. The next time you go to do it, it's easier in the sense that you've done it before. It becomes easier and easier to give in to your cravings. It's called the slippery slop. Once you start falling its twice as hard to get back up and easier to keep falling.

Human nature just drives us to be better than someone else. Why do you think people enjoy sports so much? It allows one team to show superiority over another. People have always been this way and will remain this way.

Attolia made a good point...it does start with the self...but if you don't know how to start being good, how can you affect good anywhere else?.... the standards we know of good have been impressed on us through society and our parents, and for the amount of time that evil has been around it's harder to get back to the basics of good........

Stop judging people
Stop thinking violent thoughts
Stop eating Flesh(meat)...meat has the tendency to raise violence
Stop inflicting pain on persons
and the list goes on and on....

there's so much stopping that can be done in order to bring goodness back into the picture...but then if everything stopped, where would life be??........so stopping is not the immediate answer....but the process of stopping and looking toward nature (seeing that nature remains untouched and innately balanced) then we can learn what goodness, stopping, and re-birth is......it's just 2 cents i got limited time, would go into more detail...but somebody'll finish this...

It cannot be done. The search for good is impossible because too many people believe that good is relative. My good could be you evil so now we start the wars all over. And if somebody stands up and claims to have the answer no one would believe that it was more true than another answer.

without egos we would not have the desire to stand up and proclaim our superiority. we would be engulfed in our own minds and our own self-proclaimed happiness

Everyone will do what he or she wishes in order to attain this self-proclaimed happiness. This will cause the same ammount of confusion and hatred as before.
