I knew a Catholic Layleader while I was in the Navy. The most gentle and kindest man I have ever known. He go out and spend his own money on board games to play with the snipes who were unable to go on liberty and whenever we received inoculations the corpsman would be there ready with that you use to wake people up after they have fainted and somebody would be there to catch him and no one would laugh at him and if anybody even threatoned him the snipes would kill em.

Anyways - we was very aware and ashamed of the history of his church but believed that this was true long ago but nolonger true today.

Even if you look at Protestants of the past and protestants of today you see a change.

When I look at Islam I see Christianity 250 years ago - its evolution of religion. People change and so do religions.

This thread is about the Christian crimes against humanity. Lengthy definition wars can be posted in another thread. If someone states that a specific definition within the bible CAN be missinterpreted... do not argue it from the perspective of what the correct perception is. In the case of this, your post will be deleted. What the correct perception is is not important. What is important is how it CAN be miss-interpreted, and was.

I think he is making a valid point, misconceptions are part & parcel of coming to a greater understanding. Any concept can & will be misconstrude by our nature of being ignorant.
An example is democracy & democratic republic. Most people would not make a distinction in the terms because they are used commonly as synonyms. prevailing atttitudes or acceptance as christian, non-christian attributes lead so call christians to promote non-christian atttitudes & actions.
they need to see the problem before they can change them

He is right - I thought I could teach somebody something, but it appears to be fruitless.

When someone sees something as TRUTH - that's it, its history after that.

As a very young child in a Christian family, I began to question the validity of the Christian Bible. When I read that "God" had ordered "his people" to kill children much like myself, I openly questioned whether a loving "God" would do such a thing. We actually need go no further than the Bible itself for what I consider to be such heinous crimes against humanity as to preclude the possibility of it having been divinely inspired in it's entirety, which, of course, makes the whole thing suspect.

Ya I agree. I read the same things when I was teenager where God ordering his people to kill women and children, to leave no one alive. My theory on it was that the bible was wrong, Jesus knew it and tried to fix it as diplomatically as possible when he explained that you will fulfill all the law and the prophets if you love your neighbor as yourself.

Now I'm not even sure if there was a Jesus and beginning to believe that God is the Universe, but I still have so much to study.

No I haven't, but I just did a google search and yes I would like to read that as it was recently revealed to me that Jesus originated from Egyptian folk lore and I am also very interested in the year 2012. It has to be something because the year 2012 keeps coming up in the media.
