"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygo" - Hugo Weaving as "V"

We have the technology in place at this very moment to colonize other planets, and the moon. The problem is the will to do so, and the funding.

Also, when one looks at the percentages of humans alive today, as opposed to the “dark ages” for example, one will see that we are indeed better off. The majority of the world’s population lives much longer, the average life span increasing by decades even in third world countries. Medicine has progressed to the point that many survive today, who would not have even 20 years ago, and so on.

We tend to cluster in large groups, which of course strains the local ecosystem, and allows new strains of disease to run rampant. But there are still vast amounts of ground on this planet, which has never felt the tread of the human foot. The Universe awaits us, and in my opinion, that emigration will start with corporations, looking for mineral wealth off-planet.
