Going back to my question....More rights, less shame. Right?

"But DT we don't let the individual or consenting adults do whatever they want. We don't let them use crack or heroin. We don't let two consenting adult siblings marry or have sex. Suicide is illegal. I mean the list goes on and on."
Yes, but we're moving in the direction of more personal freedom. More and more countries allow prostitution, drug use, suicide and euthanasia. A couple of generations back we even had prohibition.

So yes, we limit individual freedom, some states even absurdly disallow oral/anal sex, but our still much more open than your average society in these regards. And we're ineluctably moving towards more and more personal freedom.

States as in US States? Not here - not any more.

And is that by definition a good thing?

I haven't said if its good or bad, though I think its obvious what I think of personal freedom. I only said that Western societies are drifting towards more and more personal freedom (though less civil liberties?).
