Iraqi Mujahiddeen killed 29 pro-American solders [+ favourites]

"We tell the National Security forces that the crusaders you defend will not save you from our reach, and the Mujahiddeen are determined to liquidate you one by one," the statement went on.

One Task Force Danger soldier was killed and seven wounded in an improvised explosive device attack on a US combat patrol near Baiji, 200km north of Baghdad, said a statement on Friday.

No further details were immediately available.

The latest figures bring to 1446 the number of US soldiers killed since the US invasion in March 2003.

Meanwhile, a purported Iraqi group - the Army of Ansar al-Sunna - said on Friday it had killed 29 Iraqis and taken seven prisoners when it ambushed a 50-strong Iraqi police convoy this week, an internet statement said.

"The lions of God yesterday set a trap for a National Guard convoy at Abu Ghraib west of Baghdad ... after a fierce battle the Mujahiddeen killed 29 people, burned four trucks soldiers were riding in, and took seven prisoners," the group said in a statement dated Friday, posted on its website.

In related news, the intimidation of Iraqi soldiers by anti-US forces has hampered efforts to build a reliable security force, the US general in charge of training Iraqi troops said on Friday.

Army Lieutenant-General David Petraeus, speaking from Baghdad to reporters at the Pentagon, said the Iraqi units had suffered "losses due to severe intimidation", but he offered no specifics. He did not cite an absentee or desertion rate.

By next week, when 3500 replacements become available for duty, the 90 battalions of police, army and other types of security forces will be at 80% of their intended manpower levels, Petraeus said.

Referring to the overall state of training, Petraeus said "considerable momentum has been achieved" towards reaching the point where Iraqi forces can take the lead role. He said Iraqis already are taking the lead in 12 of the country's 18 provinces.

It's one of the keys to conquering a country guys. Divide and conquer. It not a shame. It is atrocious. Give two brothers weapons and tell them to kill one another because now they support different sides. Sick.

Iraqis have always been killing Iraqis.
The US isn't going to be able to resolve historical conflicts between the Kurds, Shias and Sunnis, those three are going to be at it forever. It's like the Montagues and Capulets, they hated each other for reasons that went on for generations and only some supposed huge tragedy brought them together.

The US starting a war was a tragedy for Americans and the international community, it didn't resolve those conflicts or cause tragedy to the Iraqis because it was an outside force. Once there is a huge tragedy within the Iraqi community between these three sects, that's when you'll see resolution.

Not to say the US didn't bring tragedy to the Iraqis.
We just like to rampage the Earth and cause shit, it's fun.
Poke holes in Panama, piss off Iran, obliterate Afghanistan, make the South Koreans hate us, it's the life I tell you.

People kill each other everywhere, when an outside nation steps in and tries to mend a centuries-old conflict with this promise of a war that was supposed to end in 30 days, you've got problems.

It's like trying to go to the IRA and saying everyone should be happy and Ireland and Northern Ireland should kiss and make up, or else we'll invade and occupy the place. Their conflict is religion-based, too, and it's been going on forever.

Check this out, not that many Americans exercise their ability to read and comprehend:

Poll Shows Doubts Over Bush Democracy Push
By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) is calling on European leaders to support his campaign to spread democracy abroad at a time people in many of those countries have doubts whether that should be the U.S. role in the world, Associated Press polling found.

A majority of people in Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain said they thought it should not be the U.S. role to spread democracy, according to AP-Ipsos polls. A majority of those living in Canada, Mexico and South Korea (news - web sites) also disagreed with that role.

Bush is on a five-day fence-mending trip to Europe after tensions were raised there by the war in Iraq (news - web sites). In a speech Monday in Brussels, Belgium, the president promoted democracy as the path forward for a host of countries, from Saudi Arabia to Iran and Syria, and urged European leaders to move beyond the rift over Iraq and join his pro-liberty campaign.

"This strategy is not American strategy, or European strategy, or Western strategy," Bush said in an echo of the broad themes of his inaugural address a month ago. "Spreading liberty for the sake of peace is the cause of all mankind."

"Europeans in general — especially the European elites — tend to be more cynical about the possibilities of exporting democracy," said Mandelbaum, author of the book "Ideas That Conquered the World: Peace, Democracy and Free Markets." "There is a general feeling that democracy just doesn't fit some cultures."

At least Europeans acknowledge democracy doesn't fit everywhere.

It's got nothing to do with spreading democracy. It's about reason. How can any country go and topple a dictator of a country that's been suffering for years (thanks to the U.S, the so-called saviors) and expect the Iraqi people to just jump into being a great nation?

It's got nothing to do with religion either. If you take a good look at religious rifts and conflicts, you'll notice that it has more to do with nationalism and greed. One example, the Anglican Church. It was set up because King Henry VIII wanted to get a divorce and the Pope would not allow it.

One poll I would like to see is what the American people think of W's "spreading of democracy". I certainly do not!
Notice the HIS in "...supporting his policy..."

NATO, as ineffectual as it is, is still an agreement among the worlds more powerful nations. They are responsible for keeping “world peace”, not America by itself. Has everyone forgotten the “weapons of mass destruction” reason our sons and daughters were supposedly first losing their lives to find? Is it completely forgotten that we knew Saddam had some, because we gave them to him, to bother Iran with because our direct involvement with that Iran might have started another world war? Does our Commander-in-chief really believe he fooled the world, or his constituents, by claiming he is going after the extremists who attacked us on our soil, then WMD, and now claims it was to “promote democracy” and “free the Iraqi People from a tyrant”? Were we asked to interfere? Are we going to stop all the genocide, slavery, war, poverty and hunger in the world? Who are we going to pick on next? It is no wonder to me that the world looks on the US with trepidation and anxiety, and that those extremist felt it necessary to attack us on our own soil. America is becoming the “Big Bully” in this planets schoolyard. And it is up to we Americans to tell President Bush to “knock it off”. Bad Mr. President, No Cookies For You!

Sorry for the rant folks, it has been building for a long time, and my oldest son just announced his intention to join the military.
