What's love? [+ favourites]

Really, what is it? How do you know if you really love someone, that's it not just an infatuation? Can you love someone who doesn't offer you anything you want? I look at people close to me and wonder if I really love them. Maybe they just make me feel secure. That if I had not felt insecure, I would not love them.

^^security is a form of love...it's not love...you'll only know what love is when you're completely alone and you have a deep down burning to make everything better for everybody you know...knowing that they won't do the same for you!

And you can't keep asking yourself if you love or not...you will only start confusing how you feel towards the people that are close to you, because in the end if your closest friend was in a bind and you had to fight for him you would... that's love, when you start to question that you start losing feeling all together....

love is culturally and socially defined. it is also defined by era. there is no universal definition of love, no catagorical imperative to experiencing it. at the moment, in western culture, security is often acceptably translated to love. so, if you love people because they make you feel secure, then that is as valid as any other reason.

Let me focus on one question. Let's say there's a cute member of the opposite sex. Let's say you have feelings for them. Let's say you've spent time with them and you think you like them. Is this love or just an infatuation?

Maybe some degree of physical attraction is unavoidable...but then how do you know that you really love someone for more than their looks?

it may seem silly, but that person would not take a bullet for you. if a person wont take a bullet for you... without having to think twice about it mind you... then they do not love you.

i mean "bullet" in a bit of a metaphorical sense as well as the actual physical bullet.

love is being willing to give of yourself completely to another.

You let go,
you watch them walk away,
what an opportunity lost.
But it's okay,
because love never left and that's all that mattered.

Opportunity always comes around again,
you just never know.
And that's the rub,
you just never know.
