Stricter guidelines for topical forums [+ favourites]

I've wanted to do this for some time but am going to be implementing this from now on.

If I deem any member attempting to infuriate, insult, or antagonize another member in any which way for their beliefs or opinions, I will act hastily in deleting or editing their posts accordingly.

This is particularly in reference to highly topical forums, such as religion, politics, and current events.

Some helpful guidelines to follow:

1. If someone is not responding to your questions and being adament and argumentative, ignore them, or message them privately.

2. Try to put your ego aside and share information. If you don't want to, don't post in the topical forums.

3. Keep in mind some level of philanthropy when you interact with one another as we are all human beings, some dumber than the rest, but we were all dumb at some point.

Although I will answer any objections you may have in regards to this new policy when I begin to implement it, I will be careful in my editing and won't readily argue with you about the validity of my actions.

PS: This is not censorship. Say what you want in general discussion. The topical forums are meant to promote awareness, and I will ensure that this happens with whatever I deem to be the necessary steps.

PS: I acknowledge that I attempt to antagonize and insult people on occasion too, so this ruleset will be hard to follow for me as well.

I cannot claim or argue on validity or value, however it is censorship.

Self incrimination is worth saving in my opinion. Besides, it often comes in a long post, but if this is not the case.....well, either way I refer to above line.

i dont see it as censorship. you are still allowed to express your views. if bitching is required it belongs in General anyway. the other threads should be strict, they often get cluttered with nonesense that is way off topic (im guilty of causing this on more than one occasion). so hey, i say if its not relavent and/or on topic... delete like crazy.

Erm, this isn't some Nazi proclamation, it might help people to structure their arguments more formally than calling each other stupid and idiotic. Well, in the forums that get heated.

If Congress and the United Nations have to expect their members to be somewhat civil in their presentations and arguments, that ought to extended to the general public.

Like I said, if it is a purely insult post, as opposed to one mixed with good info than maybe, but I still don't see the purpose of deleting it.

Warn people and let them know sure, but deleting is unecessary, again, its just my opinion.

My point of censorship is remarking on the fact of the term in association with the situation, and like my original post stated, I wasn't referring to whether it was right or wrong, just that it is technically censorship, some of which is legally enforced and not the point I was making.

And as for government officials, their demeanor is thankfully kept in decent check, now if only they could stop lying.

Censorship's general basis is the prevention of offensive ideas from being presented. That is not the purpose of this. The purpose of this is to permit whatever evil horrible ideas come up, but to promote a logical and calm method of discussing it.

Again, if, through the use of antagonistic behaviour, the POINT of the thread is being ignored or clouded, which happens more than it does not, it is detrimental for everyone participating and everyone reading.

That is simply a judgement call on your part. But do not deny it is censorship, its not just for offensive ideas but any information or action deemed needed to be censored, I'm not trying to argue lagitamicy once again, but I will continue to shoot down the notion that it is not censorship, I know its an ugly sounding word that has some stigma and implications but it is a fairly simple concept.

A general basis that you choose to focus on does not change that.

Hey, if I were admin I'd tell people to grow up too, I just have issue with changing history and destroying written records of any sort. Again, a personal thing.

I have seen posts moved or altered it has to happen, posts drift off topic (as has this one) as they are prone to doing. I totally see it (altering, censoring controling) as a valid thing to do so many post get simply buthchered completely... you can say what you want here you just need to find the right place to say it.. and as we all know we can open new threads if need be.
It irritating to find a topic you find interesting and as you read suddenly the gears have shifted and the end has nothing to do with the begining and then of course a new thread on a similar topic is opened.. so at some point in time the whole thing will be absolute chaos there needs to be order....

So I guess if you look at the absolute definition of censorship that fits in it always has and will but that is needed- say what you want but in an orderly fashion!

Okay, how about we test drive this for a while and see what will be censored and what will not, before getting upset about it? And if it causes a huge problem, it'll be apparent. But no use in jumping to conclusions and unclear assumptions.

I still deny it is censorship, but to be fair everything an admin does is in a way considered censorship, if you broaden its definition to mean "controlling information", even if that information is completely useless and anti-productive.

Well, so far I only know of one person getting upset about it and its not me, I hope no one thinks I am, and I don't mean to offend.

But yes I'm working off the definitive of the word incorporating all forms blah blah blah....

I just get edgy at the idea, but I have a lot of issues and a lot of things make me edgy. So no worries here, from what I understand thus far hopeful nothing of relevance will be deleted, like the odd and (unfortunate in my eyes) way that awakeningmystic likes to delete many of her posts, she is one of my favorite reads, and it saddens me.

Ya, I don't see a need for comparing to Nazi's on the issue but I don't even know if anything of mine has been deleted though at least sections of some if not some whole ones qualify.

you also delete and edit posts you do not agree with which is biased and against freedom of speech and your own terms of service... it's called censorship.

Not ot open old wounds, poser, but you have some pretty strong words here! I have read the threads in most of the forum topics here and, having compared people's demonstrated personalities, find that you're really dealing with being a radical among radicals. It is a fact of human physiology that people will take offense if they feel attacked in some way. This being said, and since I read from your words that you feel attacked by "the establishment" of Captain Cynic, I understand your reactions to some extent. I do think, however, that you are ballooning the situation, and perhaps seeing problems as being bigger than they are.

Plain and simple, bantering idiots will scream censorship because they desperately want to prove that their idiocy has some substance, or that their insulting behaviour is somehow a form of expression.

It isn't, in most cases. In most cases, it's just a bantering idiot who wants to be meaningful but like most people is to lazy to actually use their brains.
