Time limit on posting replies? [+ favourites]

A couple of times I have been typing a post and by the time I am done (sometimes I get sidetracked by my son, the phone, whatever, and have to come back to it 10 minutes or so later) my "login" seems to have "expired??". I click "Submit Reply" and get taken back to the login screen. Occasionally I can go "back" and find my post but sometimes I cannot get back and have to type it all over again.

Is that just a weird error or is there actually a time limit to being logged based on durations of inactivity?...

I don't know about what you're asking, all I can tell you is that I put something like remember me in the login screen so everytime I get into captaincynic.com I'm automatically logged and this time limit has never affected me and I sure have long periods of inactivity because sometimes I had been conected for 6 hours and I can tell you I didn't spent all the 6 hours in Captain Cynic Forums

That's all I can tell you, I hope this can be usefull

Bow Yow is dead on.

What happens (technically) is when you login a small file is placed on yoru computer, identifying you as who you are. It's encrypted, so you can't access the info, but Captain Cynic can because it is the site that encrypted it.

Well, each one of these files (called cookies) have an expiry date on them. So as Bow Yow said, if you click on "Remember me" on the login screen we put an expiry date that is far into the future, which will basically never come.

If you don't then the cookie is placed for the "lifetime of the browser"... and basically what that means is every time you refresh the page, it is updated. If you close the browser, it will be deleted. If you leave it on and don't refresh for like 20 minutes or something, it will be deleted.

This is the case with a majority of sites on the internet, and isn't unique to us.

Hope this answers your question!

I would also suggest writing long posts in a word program then just copy and paste the text that way you can use the spell checker as well..... or just when your ready to submit just copy all the text and if it dont work just resubmit and paste the text in. I have lost post because my former crappy pc would have different ideas on what should be going on so i learned that the hard way.....
