Freedom [+ favourites]

If you could control someone else destiny, would you?

That sounds vague: If you could control whether someone gets to keep their freedom, versus a public record open to the public, what would you do?

everyone should be allowed at least some freedom, taking away all of a persons freedom seems very wrong. i wouldnt wanna be a deciding factor in that sort of thing, thats for sure.

I think that it would depend on what that record held. I mean if it held the fact that a person was a rapist who had gotten off on a technicallity or a murderer that got off on some sort of whim then yes I say open those files so that everyone will be able to protect themselves. But if it some juvinille thing that says that some little boy stole a candy bar from a grocery store when he was 12 or if someone lied on the witness stand and was convicted of perjury then why waste your time and someone elses also.

I just think it depends on what is in those files.

Cowgirl, please go and read in General Discussion the 23 y/o teacher thread. I don't feel like typing it all over again (being lazy ).

My immediate family member has the power to take away this person freedom for 20-30 years via a testimony, or this person can have their freedom by signing on the dotted line and giving up.

If you were in this position what would you do? I know what this family member is going to do, and smiling all the way.

That's one of the wonderful things about living in America. No matter what you do she will always have some freedom!!!!

Freedom... HMMMMM there is always something to say on that subject.

Lynnie you say that a family member has the power to take someone elses freedom from them for 20-30 years just by a testimony. WOW! That must be one hell of a testimony. Either that or that other person is just plain stupid for whatever they did.

I did go read the thing on the teacher and even responded.
