My Post Was EDITED! [+ favourites]

Hey I am relativly new to this forum and have really come to enjoy reading and writing posts not to mention the humor insights it provides. But today I got online and saw that one of my posts was edited by "Firebird" who felt it was off topic

Surely this was the first time anything went off topic- as I am sure you will all agree after reading a few strings of posts.

My thought is what use is it to post in a forum that employes cencorship concerning the most rudimentary mesages? I can understand removing posts of a vulgar or threatening nature but under this circumstance? What is the point of entering a dialogue if your words are altered?

The circumstance:

In the thread "Where are you from? " my post read something like-
"I am from a dreramworld that is chaotic and etheral kind of like the vacican..." something like that. I forget exactly but not to far from that-

Then my post was changed to:

"EDITED BY Firebird
If you were not intending to contibute to this thread.......
why did you post? "

So what gives?
Is this some violation or other? would it not be better to simply remove the post in question?

I must ask the administrators of this page is this the norm? Why was this done?

Yeah, so many times I have wanted to add a comical bit to a thread but you also have to remember that some people want their thread to be serious, and so that is why that is why the editing is employed.

Though I don't think that coment really should of been edited from that thread seeing as how I don't think the discussion was really that serious. But, I am not an admin, so it isn't my call.

There is a post of form rules somewhere around here with more detailed reasons though.

So who edits this stuff the the initiator of the thread? or the adminstrators?

Hi I R,

You should contact the administrator that edited your post as a first attempt. Find out why that person thought it needed to be edited. If there are any problems with this communication, please don't hesitate to contact another administrator for clarification.

You can tell who is an admin by the "Administrator" title above their names.

We;ve had problems like these in the past and I want to assure you no one is censoring anything. I am positive that any edits done by any admins is in the purpose of maintaining the steady flow of the thread rather than hiding what it is that you said from public view.

yeah........ the admins sometimes mess up
and we kinda take it personally but they don't give a damn

Oddly enough even after this- the post was re-edited! what a joke! The rediculous comments left by the admin have been removed!

MIA: If you have issues, speak to an admin personally. If that does not work, speak to me (as I stated in this thread already). I have received no questions from you about post editing, so I'm not sure where your comment stems from.

But I will thank all those who responded, and I will bury the hatchet here- this really does seem to be a great place to post.

I was disturbed that my words had been changed- and then rechanged leaving the post at first censored out and then edited so as to be way out of context. I hope that in the future admins in question will apply more discretion and sensitivity
I fell this was handled poorly and if standing up for what I fell is an injustice alienates a few people so be it.

Not at all I R. I appreciate your honesty and if there is a lack of discretion on our parts in the future, please better us by being discrete yourself in your criticism of our actions. I promise you none of us will react defensively.

If admins make mistakes it's because they forgot, not because they are trying to insult anyone.

do i have to say something stupid about the topic in order for the post where i'm defending myself to stay ?

so....... what would i say ? my post didn't have anything to do with the subject .... i was just trying to expalin to the person that calling me closeminded is stupid b/c i even change my point of view in that thread (something a closeminded person doesn't do)
first someone puts me down for no reason
and then someone else doesn't even let me stick up for myself
tha'ts not the end of the story though THEN someone else makes a post that is "off topic" in that same thread just for an experiment ....... and it's still there

MIA: If you're saying the post you posted was off-topic to begin with, why are you complaining about my edit? You're not supposed to defend yourself in subject specific forums because they have nothing to do with that. If you do that, the other person will do that, and it will digress into a fight.

If you want to respond to somoene calling you closeminded make it a short sentence and include that in a relevent post that pertains to the rest of the thread. If your post solely contains a rebuttal for your own ego newcomers to the site will get the wrong impression of the way we discuss things.

i'm not supposed to defend myself in subject specific forums because no one is supposed to insult me in subject specific forums. and if you remove my post might atleast delete the insult in the other person's post. that would be fear don't you think ?
