The truth-telling pencil had no eraser, therefore the pencil would ALWAYS tell the absolute truth and nothing but the truth.  |

The reason they needed to find this pencil was because if it feel into the wrong hands, it could be dangerous, a really dangerous dangerous, one that could only be found in a truth telling pencil, falling into the wrong hands.
