Empowering Empathy |

The goal is to retain empathy even when that empathy is not to be given or shared. Everyone can and should be empathized with, however, for some people empathy will not do any good. Empathy given to some people is infact detrimental to the person giving the empathy and the one being given to, because the one receiving it will not use it for positive endeavors. They will neither feel loved, nor use the empathy to improve or uplift their lives. They will instead use it to make themselves feel like victims and to cage the giver through the use of guilt. The giver of the empathy also becomes at risk of losing self esteem and confidence in their ability to empathize with others â€" they could begin to believe / feel that it is their empathy that is flawed and that they are not doing their best. So, with such people it is important to not give, share or display empathy towards them, as this is the best course of action. The question is, how do we retain the ability to still empathize towards such people instead of not empathizing with them at all? Possible Solution: Empathizing with a person and determining if that empathy will be / is being used positively or not. A person receiving empathy uses it positively when they either (a) feel loved (b) uses it to heal (c) uses it to uplift their lives. If the person is not using your empathy positively, then there is no reason to give empathy. After this point you can empathize with that person, for the sake of your own understanding about that person, but it would be detrimental to continue empathizing for the sake of trying to help, or love, that person. So you just have to smile and know that you empathized with them, it wasn't supposed to be and you continue, that is, you happily move on without any negative feelings about your own ability to empathize. You should smile knowing that that person is exactly where they are supposed to be. And that your empathy cannot help them. |
