The Liver and Gallbladder |

Everyone talks about their heart, but the liver has so many beautiful, necessary, and wondrous properties. Did you know that the liver is one of the only organs that is able to regenerate itself, almost completely? If you lose up to 75% of your liver (or damage it) it can regenerate COMPLETELY. It has built in cell properties (something to do with stem cells) that permits it to regrow entirely despite having very little to begin with. The liver is so multi-talented that no mechanical device can (yet) mimic all the functions it performs. Although it helps in detoxifying blood (and absorbing medicine) an interesting purpose of it is its aid in digesting fat. Fat (lipids) when consumed tend to pack together - they don't dissolve in water and as a result it makes it very hard for the body to digest them. If there were no liver and gallbladder, the body would digest only the outer layers of fat clumps and much of the fat would pass through the body unprocessed. What the liver does is it creates something called "bile". Bile has specific properties in that one side of it is attracted to fat and the other side is attracted to water - therefore, bile permits fat to be seperated in water, permitting your stomach to digest and process fat properly. Now, what the gallbladder does is it stores concentrated bile for the liver and uses this bile to help the pancreas and the liver process fats by ejecting bile through the tubes to them when fat is consumed. HOWEVER, if the liver is reasonably inactive for long periods of time (which therefore makes the gallbladder inactive for long periods of time) the concentrated bile in the gallbladder can harden and become stones - hence, gallstones. The more gallstones you have, the less effective your body will be at emulsifying fats (the process of permitting fats and water to mix) and it can also cause various abdomen pains. Therefore, the removal of gallstones is an effective way to ensure that your liver and pancreas are dealing with the fats you eat in an effective way - by keeping your gallbladder free of blockage. It only contains about 50ml of bile, and since gallstones are hardened bile they are absolutely useless in emulsifying fats. HOW does one flush out all those nasty gallstones? It's remarkably easy, but somewhat painful. Take 3/4 a cup of Tea Seed Oil or Olive Oil (tea seed oil is healthier, light in taste, and much more viscose which makes it easier) and mix it with half a cup of FRESH (not from concentrate) grapefruit juice and 1/4 cup of lemon juice. Put it in a closed container and shake up. Leave it out so that it heats up to normal room temperature (because the body has to heat it up anyways before digestion should occur, and you do not want it sitting in your stomach any longer than necessary) and keep it by your bedside. As you are about to fall assleep down the whole thing. Ensure that you don't eat anything at least 2-3 hours before you drink this (the stomach needs to be empty). What happens is this: When you drink such a large quantity of oil (which is pure fat) your gallbladder freaks out. It doesn't know what to do so it flushes out all the bile it can. As a result it also pushes out all the gallstones that may be contained in there. The citrus in the grapefruit and lemon juice softens the stones so they can pass through your stools unnoticed. ----------- Suffice to say I drank the mixture last night, and today after some uncomfortability I took a shower, drank some juice, and then felt the push - that innevitable tug in my stomach. So I went, took a rather odd dump and lo and behold! Over 50 odd shaped emerald green lumps showed up which certainly were not peas. And surprisingly, I feel a little lighter. Of course, I haven't got them all out yet - it will take a few more healthy dumps to totally flush them out but overall, I'm quite baffled by how easy and successful that was. |
