It was an old ache that turned his chest inside out But not entirely for something held it in bondage. He stared at the skies day after day From his confined cage hoping one day to fly. For he had felt the winds before. Above and below him he had flown at a time. And descended once more to loosen what weights still held him. But was lost in the dead forest of steel. Visions of himself surrounded him... Visions of pain and of loss. All turning his sight inwards, At new and forgotten fears. It was a thought game, he knew. No longer would he fly with force For the levity he sought, Was now anchored by his mind. So he sat upon the cold floor and looked once at the heavens. For he would close his eyes now. And will the temprament and temperature of his body and mind To the places he sought to soar. |
