There was once a time... Oh yes. There once was a time... My boy. When you may have cried... And the tears were oh so salty... But they tasted good. Staring out a window at night... Chimneys smoking away. Accompanying your gaze. The wind was cold, wasn't it? Chilling at the tip of your nose... But sweet in your chest. And glorious in your lungs. Like a pianist plays... Like a dancer dances... You wept. With breath. And smiled. Now... You don't cry. You smile. Absolution. You were so confused And it drained you. Made you bend over backwards, And fall flat on your face. But you flex now. A man with a gleam. Because it felt all wasted But it's so much better now. And so much worse, I suppose. It's all available to recognize. And recognition of fact, Is always so much worse. But it's the truth, my boy. It's true. And now, You see it. You see it... With your open eyes. |
